The Last Present (Willow Falls)

The Last Present (Willow Falls)

By Wendy Mass

I absolutely love the Willow Falls series. I have read every book so far, including this one. The ending is sad, but completely surprising. Grace isn't in a coma, and the doctor can't seem to figure out what's wrong. Amanda and Leo must travel back to every one of Grace's birthdays and fix a problem. The cool bit is that their appearances change every time they o back in time. One birthday they are blond and tan, the next black hair and dark skin. They certainly go on an adventure of a lifetime! Plus, Amanda and Leo share a secret _ _ _ _. Read the book to find out it's awesomeness!

11 birthdays is a good book so far. It's a book about a girl named Amanda who's x-best friend, Leo is having a cool birthday party with all these cool things at it while Amanda is having a "Hollywood" themed party with a itchy costume. Unfair! Their birthday party is on the same night and Amanda figures out that she will have to face the feeling that a lot of her friends will leave her party to go to Leo's! At least the next day her birthday ids over, but it seems it starts all over again the next day!

The Running Dream

The Running Dream

By Wendelin Van Draanen

Jessica, a skilled runner, loses her leg in a car accident. She thinks her life is over when she finds out that she needs a prosthetic leg because her life practically is running. Jessica starts to feel exposed, even when she's with her family. People act like she's practically invisible, until she meets Rosa. Rosa is a girl with cerebral palsy in Jessica's math class that everybody overlooks, especially Jessica. They develop a relationship that wasn't there before, because Rosa can see into Jessica's heart. Her family, teammates, and friends try to raise money for Jessica's prosthetic. Jessica wants to cross the finish line, but not by herself; she's taking Rosa with her. This is a really inspiring story. I'm not a runner, and I prefer lounging on the couch reading a book. In my opinion, I'm a very lazy, procrastinating person. This book made me want to just run. I had really high expectations for this book, but Jessica didn't seem to go out of the average girl-type of bubble. Rosa reminded me of Augutus from TFIOS because she had little pieces of paper that had the most memorable quotes ever. Jessica also had a love interest who was particularly annoying. He ignored Jessica before she got a prosthetic, and just magically started caring for Jessica. I mean, who does that?!? Seriously. I was really worried that Jessica and Rosa wouldn't stay friends after a while. This is because when I read books that have supporting characters with a disability, they help the main character and they they disappear as quickly as they were introduced. This bothers me very much, but at least this book didn't do this. It was a very close call. Overall, I would rate this book a 3.5 out of 5 stars. It was about average. Signing off, -ifeelbookish

There Is a Bird On Your Head! (An Elephant and Piggie Book)

There Is a Bird On Your Head! (An Elephant and Piggie Book)

By Mo Willems

I had read this when I was in Kindergarten. I still remember a lot! I'd recommend it for 3-6 year olds. But, your never too old for this book! Gerald was just standing when his best friend, Piggie, noticed there was a bird on his head. I don't remember a lot, but I think the bird ended on Piggie's head at the end

Home for the Holidays (The Mother-Daughter Book Club)

Home for the Holidays (The Mother-Daughter Book Club)

By Heather Vogel Frederick

In Home for the Holidays by Heather Vogel Fredrick, the character who faces the most problems is Becca. In every Mother-Daughter book club book, there is always 1 girl out of the 4 girls who has a family problem. In the book, Becca is still feeling a little uncomfortable about being friends with Emma, Cassidy, and Jess. Megan is her friend, so she is fine with her. She is uncomfortable because she used to tease Emma and Jess a lot, and she always hated Cassidy. Even worse for her, her family is having money issues, because her dad lost his job. I think that the main thing in this book is about their friendship together, and how they kept it together. Along the way, Becca messes up a few times, like stealing one of Megan’s friends, and playing mean pranks out of selfishness. In this book, I would say is when Becca is having sort of a self-conflict, because she still feels a little guilty about used being mean to all of them. She seems to really want to become their friends, but sometimes, her old habits still get in the way. Christmas was coming up, and Becca did not want any of her friends to know that her family was broke, so was always in a really bad mood, and never explaining herself, causing the other girls to get mad at her, because it seems likes Becca is jealous of something, or mad. Meanwhile, Emma and Jess, friends who have never fought before are now fighting, right before Christmas. Jess is mad at Emma, because Emma keeps listening to what Jess’s cousin, Felicia is saying about her. All of the girls keep fighting because people around them are playing pranks on them, causing them to blame each other. The story switches around to multiple points of views, and I realized that they all just misunderstood each other when they got into fights. Like what we used in class, I think the author’s goal is to show a character’s motivation, but by using different points of views for the reader to find out what was happening. The goals the author showed were what made the story interesting, in my opinion. This review was also for my home log.

You Go First

You Go First

By Erin Entrada Kelly

I love many books by Erin Entrada Kelly and "You Go First" is definitely one of them. It is told in two different perspectives only connected by an online Scrabble game that keeps them connected in the hard times that they are facing. Charlotte's dad is in the hospital and her best friend has drifted toward the popular group. Bridget has a pair of Vans, got lots of new clothes, and paints her nails, Charlotte wants to keep hanging out with her but she doesn't seem to fit in. Charlotte is left with no friends and she finds that she has more in common with Magda, the girl next door, than she ever had with Bridget. Ben decides he is going to run for student council treasurer, but doesn't find much support from his school mates. On top of that, his parents decide to get a divorce, that he had no idea was coming. The only person who really gets him is Wyatt, who is kept away from the drama of the school cafeteria on account of his allergies. Charlotte and Ben connect in unexpected ways while they push through their problems in unique ways, find new friends, and learn to not be someone that you're not to impress others. I love how lots of Kelly's books have the character's lives connect in ways that they don't realize. This was a wonderful book, so good that I read it in a day!

Pegasus: The Flame Of Olympus

Pegasus: The Flame Of Olympus

By Kate O'Hearn

First word that pops into my mind when I think of this book: courage. Emily, a New York girl living in a apartment, finds a winged horse on her roof after she experiences a power outage. What would your reaction be after finding a mythological creature on top of your house? "Oh. There's another horse that's living on top of our house. Hey, Dad! Do you want to call that guy that took care of the other one again?" Probably not. So put yourself in Emily's position. One of the most powerful beings from Mount Olympus thrown is thrown on your roof, you have to defend yourself from psychotic rock monsters, and on top of that you have to make sure a dangerous secret govenment force doesn't find out and run experiments on you for their benefit to "help" the country. Doesn't sound so chill anymore, does it? But that's one of the reasons why I love it so much. It's packed with adventure and twists and turns. It keeps you on your toes and I don't mean that like I put books under my toes. That's weird. I seriously love this book though. I had my doubts about it because I was looking for a good fiction mythology book to read after Percy Jackson and The Heroes of Olympus and this one looked like it was a rip-off of it. Boy, was I wrong! This is definitely worth your money and time. You won't regret it!
