On his 13 birthday, Mississippi's ( Mibs ) brother Fish started a hurricane, but of course, that isn't unusual in the Beaumont family. They've been known to be able to do unimaginable things. Things like making land new land appear out of nowhere or having control over electricity or being perfect in every single way. These things or savvies as they call them come when a Beaumont turns 13. Mibs can't wait for her thirteenth birthday she hopes to get something amazing something to show her brother Rocket that girls can get awesome savvies too. But after her father is in a car crash Mibs's birthday plans are put on hold when her mother and older brother go to see her father in the hospital. Then ensues a wild adventure complete with talking tattoos, a Bible delivery man, and a pink bus.

I would recommend this book to middle school aged kids and above, especially mystery lovers. I think that people who enjoyed "Escape from Mr. Lemoncello's Library" would enjoy this book as well. He finds out his best friend Grover is actually a Satyr (half goat), his favorite teacher is a Centaur. And the most important thing: Percy is a half-blood. His mother is human, but his father(who he has never seen) is a Greek god. Percy soon finds out that his father isn't just a 'regular' god, he is one of the Big Three-Poseidon. Being a half-blood means that monsters are constantly attacking him-monsters he previously thought were myths. But Percy will have to face the facts at Camp Half-Blood, where he is forced to take cover. Camp Half-Blood is definitely different than any other camp. Besides the fact that Capture the Flag includes deadly weapons, there are nymphs and dryads at every corner, and even a battle arena. But of course things don't quite down for Percy once he arrives at Camp. His mother is taken hostage by Hades, who isn't the only god angry at him. Percy has been framed for the ultimate crime-stealing Zeus's master lightning bolt. In just a few days Percy must journey on his first quest with Grover and Annabeth (a stubborn and skilled daughter of Athena) in order to clear his and his father's name before the ultimate war breaks out. I recommend this book to mythology and adventure lovers. I think this is a great introduction to Greek mythology in a fun way. I think this book is primarily geared toward junior high aged kids, but I also think high schoolers will enjoy it. I rate this book 4 out of 5 stars.

The Dragonet Prophecy is set in a world where the seven dragon tribes in the story have been at war for many years. The Talons of Peace want to bring an end to the fighting, and a prophecy is made. Five dragon eggs are raised hidden in a cave against their will to fulfill the prophecy. But then the five decide to escape their underground prison and find their homes. They succeed but are almost immediately captured by an evil queen. And the outside isn't what they expected at all. What will happen to them? Will they save the world? Or will they perish in their fight for freedom? I really liked this book. There was plenty and action, and I loved learning about all the unique dragon tribes and characteristics. It was interesting to see the development of the friendship between the five dragonets, and their reaction to their new reality. I recommend this book to fantasy and adventure (and of course dragon) lovers middle grade age and up. I rate this book 4 out of 5 stars.

Now Mibs is about to turn thirteen, and they all wonder what her savvy will be. But just before her birthday, her father is in a car accident, and now lies in a coma in the hospital. And Mibs just hopes that whatever her savvy is, it will be something that can save him. I loved this book, it is such a unique concept, and Ingrid Law pulled it off beautifully. I kept wanting to turn the page and find out what was going to happen next. I especially liked that I got to feel what Mibs was feeling as she was trying to figure out her savvy and control it and as she goes on an adventure in the hopes of saving her father. I recommend it to middle grade students and older. I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars.
