Anne of Avonlea (Second Book in the Anne of Green Gables Series.)

Anne of Avonlea (Second Book in the Anne of Green Gables Series.)

By L M Montgomery

This book... This book is such a beloved classic for such good reason. It was so full of imagery and brilliant plot that I was sad to reach the end. One thing I will say though, is that Avonlea seems just a little too perfect. Aside from the one disaster and some minor scrapes, everything happens so that life flows idylly. Other than that, the book was written splendidly with lots of care. Even though this book is suitable for readers of all ages, there are many profound quotes and little gems that may not be picked up by a younger crowd. It just refreshes and makes me happy every time I read an "Anne of" book because they're so wholesome and gracefully written. The author, L.M. Montgomery is a literary genius. I can't wait to follow Anne along on her journey.

Stars Above

Stars Above

By Marissa Meyer

Stars Above is basically a collection of nine stories that take place before and after the actual series. The Keeper is about Michelle Benoit retrieving Cinder and keeping her safe and growing. Glitches is about eleven year old Cinder meeting her step-family. The Queen’s Army is about Ze’ev (Wolf) being taken from his family to be part of the queen’s wolf mutant pack. Carswell’s Guide to Being Lucky is about thirteen year old Thorne and his middle school experience before he was put in prison. After Sunshine Passes By is about nine year old Cress being transferred to the satellite to be the queen’s personal hacker. The Princess and the Guard is about how Princess Winter got her scars, how she went crazy, and how Jacin became a palace guard instead of pursuing his dream of being a doctor. The next one is The Little Android, which talks about an android, Mech6.0. The one after that is The Mechanic, which is basically the scene where Cinder and Kai meet, except it’s in Kai’s point of view. The final one is Something Old, Something new, which takes place two years after the dethroning of Queen Levana. SPOILER: Scarlet and Wolf get married, and Kai proposes. 💞 There’s also an extra excerpt from another one of Meyer’s book, Heartless. Overall, Stars Above was fun to read because the author gave an extra perspective of the characters’ life before and after the main four books. I loved it! 🩷

Seedfolks

Seedfolks

This is the worst book I’ve ever read. A complete and utter waste of time and effort. Literally nothing happens. There is 0 plot. It introduces characters (who are poorly written in the first place) and immediately gets rid of them. There is no conflict or even resolution. They set up one, but it’s immediately thrown out along with the character it’s set up with. It’s a hollow shell of a book with a hollow shell of a message that makes everyone love this book for no good reason. It plays the whole “be nice to people and be with your communities” message, but because of the terrible writing this message just feels so hollow. Like it was thrown in just to get people to like the book. It sadly worked. This book gets a 0 out of any amount of stars.

Because Of Winn-Dixie

Because Of Winn-Dixie

By Kate DiCamillo

I thought this book was good but not usually the type of book I would read. It has good storytelling but doesn't have a lot of action scenes. When I was reading it I felt bored sometimes because nothing excited was happening in that part. I liked this book because it always had questions running wild in my head. It is a book about a girl named Opal that just moved to a new town with her father. She feels very alone because she has no friends and her father is spending to much time on his job and not enough on her. Then she encounters a dog named Winn-Dixie and he changes her life. One of the things I most disliked about this book is I felt it took too long to get the climax and that the climax was really the only part with a lot of action and was exciting. The book itself is more intriguing than excited. One of the things I liked most about the book was how it always made me guess if something were to happen next or what was happing with a character that made him/her the way they are. I also liked how they kept teasing the return of a certain character and the result of the tease. All things considered, I would say the good thing outweighs the bad and it wasn't perfect so I think a 4-star rating if fair.

Little Women

Little Women

By Louisa May Alcott

This is a wonderful book. It is about four sisters: the March sisters. Meg; the eldest and the prettiest, Jo; the tomboyish, author, Beth; the sweet, shy one, and Amy; the youngest and most self conscious artist. They and their wise mother have to face the brave of the war going on, with the hanging feeling that their soldier father might not come home. While so, they meet a young man named Laurie, who soon is like a part of the family. Later in the book, Laurie falls in love with Jo. Jo, however, does not feel the same way. When Laurie confesses, Jo breaks his heart. I for one, disagree with this. I feel Laurie and Jo would have made a lovely couple. Later on, Beth gets brushed with death once, but manages to survive. I was really sad when Beth died from scarlet fever, and I wish she didn't. When the girls grow up, each one goes to pursue their dreams except for Meg, who marries John Brooke, Laurie's old tutor. They have twins, and have a happy family. As for Amy, she heads off to Europe with grumpy old Aunt March to paint. While in Europe, she stumbles upon Laurie, who also tried to escape from home for a while to try to mend his heartbreak. Honestly, I think Laurie was being a little creepy. But of course, Amy and Laurie fall in love and get married. And for the last but best character, Jo, she escaped to New York City to study, and writes a book. While there, she falls in love with a college professor, and they later get married. It was a very good story. I recommend it to anyone looking for a relatable historical fiction with excellent vocabulary.
