A Shadow Bright and Burning (Kingdom on Fire, Book One)

A Shadow Bright and Burning (Kingdom on Fire, Book One)

By Jessica Cluess

Henrietta Howel has lots to figure out as a person. She has mystical fire powers. Where did they come from and why? Suddenly she and her best friend Rook are whisked away to a sorcerer society where they claim she is the one to save them from the Ancients. The Ancients are ruthless monsters who destroy everything in their path. She begins training with a group of of 5 boys and finds some new friendships. She struggles in the beginning, too much for her taste, so she goes to see a magician. Something that is wildly frowned upon. Turns out she is not, in fact a sorcerer but a magician. After she realizes this, has to lie to her friends so that she can be accepted in the Order. She eventually achieves sorcerer-hood and defeats one of the Ancients. Personally, I really wanted to like this book but I found that it was very fast. It did not provide many descriptions in any setting and it did not explain much of the complicated plot. I like complex stories but it was very hard to figure out the actual backstory. Also many characters secrets were mentioned quite a few times in key moments but I kept having to refer back to the page where it was described. The secrets weren't very memorable and each character had their own which made it hard to decipher what secret they were referencing. Relating to the characters, I thought they were way too much like the Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare (great series btw). The characters had most of the same struggles. Their relationships were similar. At first you don't notice it, but as the book progresses you see it. This book had a great plot but if you are looking for some other interesting books like this I suggest all of Cassandra Clare's teen fiction.

Animal Rights

Animal Rights

By Charles Patterson

This book (Animals Rights By: Charles Patterson) is a very awesome book for the people that don't know how painful are those animals feels. Author describe how painful those animals are and what humans have done to those animals. Animals should not get disturbed by humans and also humans can't steal their whole life. Humans should respect them and treat them like our humans. The author hopes that humans can stop hunting or disturbing animals from now and give them back their liberty and a safe home... I think the best part of this book is that the author wants humans to respect the animals and telling the reason. I also think it that way, I think humans should respect animals, then animals will respect humans too. I can imagine how painful those animals feel, and it seems horrible. I wish the problem can just solve soon...

Anxiety and Panic Attacks (Teen Mental Health)

Anxiety and Panic Attacks (Teen Mental Health)

By Judith Levin

This book is about anxiety and panic attack. By reading this book, we can know what causes anxiety and panic attack and what are some effects and symptoms of them. It also introduces the difference between anxiety and panic disorder. The reader can also learn about the common anxiety disorders. It is possible to control anxiety and panic attack by getting some treatments such as talking to a therapist or a psychiatrist, taking a medication, and using natural healing powers of their minds and bodies. I chose to read this book because I was writing an essay about anxiety and depression and I need to know some information about anxiety. This book is basically telling the reading that people can experience anxiety and panic attack during their lifetime and there are ways that we can do to control it and further onwards make us feel better. The important conclusion of this book is that in order to make the patient feel happy again they have to be patient and get help. I agree with the author’s conclusion because anxiety and panic attacks aren’t illnesses that can become better in a short amount of time. In addition, getting help is the only way that can help them because if they don’t tell another one about it and just hide it inside, they will become more and more unhappy. This is a really helpful book to both people that think they have anxiety and panic attacks and people that don’t have them. To people that think they have those illnesses, they can further on make sure whether they really have them or not. If they are sure that they have those illnesses, they can know what should they do to control it and where to get help. For people that don’t have them, they will know that it is really difficult for people that are diagnosed with those illnesses and may understand their pain and empathize them. For the reasons above, I would like to recommend this book to the people around me. Overall, this is a valuable book.
