Wow it's cool

Our second grade class really enjoyed the time travel and loved giving Shep an Irish accent. We go to a Catholic school, so we were very familiar with all the things about the Church and sacraments. We liked the part when Patrick threw a rock at the sailor even though we know that isn't usually a good thing to do. Can't wait to read more Chime Traveler stories!

I would read Hatchet first, it would make more sense. He is not alone this time. He has a man named Derek Holtzer with him. But on a stormy night Derek reaches for his briefcase and gets struck by lightning and in a coma. Brian had to build a raft and travel the river to a trading post where they are saved. I totally recommend it! 🙂

A spooky thriller, Peeled is a great book to read on an October weekend, leading up to Halloween! Hildy Biddle's looking for a story to write in her high school newspaper. She's stumped until a haunted house in the neighborhood starts to create some racket. She does all she can to write an amazing story, which then leads into some clashing with other newspapers in the town, which then leads to blackmail. But finally, the high school newspaper finds their way, with a surprise twist at the end! Joan did a great job with this book. One of my favorite parts was that she took Banesville, NY, the place that the story is in, and though it is fictional, she really makes it seem real, by adding in details like that it was in apple country, which is widespread throughout NY. She really gives attention to each individual character, and lets each of them grow. Overall, a quick read but a good read!

12-year-old Foster McFee and her mother leave Memphis in a rush with her mother’s Elvis impersonator friend, hot on their trail. Shoving whatever they can along with Foster’s baking supplies and her muffins in their Chevy, they drive for hours until they hit the small quiet town of Culpepper, West Virginia. Foster dreams of being Food Network’s first youth cook like her idol, Sonny Kroll. Foster soon realizes that she isn’t the only one in Culpepper to have a dream. She meets Macon, a short boy, who no one takes seriously. He wants to document a film in Culpepper but doesn’t have a camera. Foster’s passion for baking win the hearts of many people including Angry Wayne who agrees to partner up and sell her muffins along with his fine food; Perseverance Wilson a gardener who is selling her church to a taco fast food chain and Miss Charleena, a dramatic, retired Hollywood actress who can cook. Foster bakes to divert her thoughts from the loss of her father and the fact that she cannot read. Soon Miss Charleena discovers Foster’s secret and agrees to help Foster read only if Foster helps Miss Charleena learn how to cook. As the story progresses, Foster supports her mom to be a headliner singer instead of a backup singer and helps Miss Charleena to step out of her gloomy days and helps her get back to being an actor.

When there's a trend, don't count Babymouse out! When texting and surfing the Internet becomes all the rage, Babymouse will do everything in her power to obtain a cell phone of her very own. But when the obsession over funny animal videos, texting slang, and building up an empire of social media followers push her over the edge, can Babymouse really stick with the trends?

The “No-Neck”, fire hydrant-shaped yet graceful, loyal, chatterbox, (drum roll), Manny, is by far my most favorite character in the book. He’s been sent by the angels to help Michael in Michael’s dark times of distress. Michael knows that a world without Manny is like pizza without the cheese. If Manny weren’t there for Michael, what would become of him? They do everything together, and Manny is willing to do anything for Michael. What more could a friend want than Manny? He’s a very relatable character; you’ve probably got one of these Manny’s in your life. One reason specifically why I like Manny so much is because he’s a lot like me. We’re both huge chatterboxes and crack jokes in unnecessary situations. He’s the finishing masala to the book, which of course would never be complete with Manny. “Heat” without Manny would be a heart-wrenching tragedy story, with Michael constantly under clouds. The comedy factor combined with the drama is what makes “Heat” so special, and Manny is the definition of comedy, of course. He’ll lift his head up in the darkest of situations and is always by Michael’s side. Neither of them knows it, but deep down they are as close as brothers, Manny only being second to baseball for Michael.

This is a heart warming book. That also show that dogs known for fighting can sometimes be the sweetest, most loyal!

Little house on the prairie by Laura Ingalls Wilder illustrated by Garth Willams. Laura's Ingalls family members are her two sisters baby Carrie and Mary Ma and Pa. The big woods got too crowded so Laura and her family moved to the prairie.They settled in the prairie and dad did most of the work on the house and the stable. Then eventually They saw an Indian in the distance. Then Dad builds a roof, floor, and digs a well, And of course a fireplace.Then two mean, greedy,dirty Indians robbed stuff like cornmeal and tobacco for dad’s gun, but they did not take the furs that dad is going to try to trade for a plow. Then dad goes to town and gets glass, sugar and trades the furs [ another name for coats] for a plow. Then there was an indian war cry. Then Laura's family starts to plant. Then they see a trail of indians. Then Laura and her family leave. If you like books about people's childhoods, then this is a good book to read. if you like history then choose this book.

Emmy and the incredible Shrinking rat by Lynne Jonell is about a brave girl with some gigantic secrets. Emmy is a beautiful girl and her parents love her very much. When she gets home her dad comes and talks to her about school and then they read books since they live in a bookstore. Now that all happened before the move. The move. A horrible dreadful thing. Ever since they moved her parents have been gone a lot! They also got a new nanny. Emmy goes to school of course but her teacher never remembers her name! Not even the kids in her class can remember her name! Their class has a pet rat. Emmy enjoys her class’s rat. Sometimes she’ll stay inside for recess to talk to the rat. Then once it bit her! She still talked to it though. Once it talked back! Then she brought it home. She fed it peanut butter cups and other things. Her nanny didn’t know about this rat though. One day she met a friend and he had got bitten by the rat once and then right then he got bitten again. The second bite made him shrink so now Emmy had two tiny living things to take care of. She decided to skip out on tap classes and go to some shops. When her nanny came walking by she went into this antique shop to hide. She saw many animals that all had magical powers! And the rat that she is taking care of can talk to her so he said something about his sister in there! She leaves the shop to go home. A few days later her nanny tells her that her parents are coming home soon for a bit. When they get there their nanny makes yummy potato things. Emmy figures out that inside the potato things the nanny is putting something. That is part of the tale of Emmy and the incredible shrinking rat. If you want to know more than I think you should read this book! If you like mysteries this is the book for you. Also if you like funny books this will also be a good fit. I appreciate this book because it is very mysterious and still has some humor in it. That is why you should read this book.
