Becoming Naomi Leon (Americas Award for Children's and Young Adult Literature. Commended)
By Pam Munoz Ryan
I loved this book! It was about an girl called Naomi and her brother Owen, who was born crippled. They were raised by their grandmother, since Naomi's mom took them away, but then ditched them and gave them to their grandmother. One day, their mother comes and interrupts their peaceful life (well, sort of) and tries to get Naomi back, but not Owen. At first, Their real mom, Skye is very nice. She bribes them with gifts, and she pretends to be nice. But still, she was never a good mom, and started to lose her temper and not care about them. Naomi learns that her mom never did care about them from her heart, but was just using gifts to make them like her. Naomi also finds out, while waiting at school for her mom that she was at an rehab center multiple times, and started drinking AGAIN. When Skye goes to court, saying she wants to keep Naomi, Naomi's closest family and friends go with her to Mexico to seek help from her dad. This was an one of a kind book that you MUST read! Once (Once Series)
By Morris Gleitzman
Once is a heartbreaking, beautiful story about a young, innocent Jewish boy named Felix. Before WWII began, his parents hid him in a catholic orphanage where the nuns kept his secret. After four years at the orphanage, Felix is sure that he's received a message. He believes that his parents want him to come and find them. So he sneaks out of the orphanage and finds his old house above his parent's bookstore. But his parents are no longer there. As he walks around trying to find his parents, he learns more about the war, who the Nazis are, and meets a little girl named Zelda whose parents were killed. This is an innocent, childlike account of WWII. I would recommend this book to 6th grade and older, seeing as it is about one of the most terrible wars in history. It is sad, scary, and sweet, and you will definitely cry your eyes out!
Hour of the Bees
By Lindsay Eagar
Carolina doesn't want to spend her summer at a sheep farm. Why? because in that farm, her family is moving her grandfather (Whom shes never met) into a home for people with dementia. While shes there, she loses her baby brother and almost lost him to a rattlesnake, learns that there on the ranch there has been a drought for 100 years, learns what happened to her grandmother, and more. If I could rate this book 10 stars. I would, its very moving. (Get it?)
In a Heartbeat
By Loretta Ellsworth
When a small mistake costs sixteen-year-old Eagan her life during a figure-skating competition, she leaves many things unreconciled, including her troubled relationship with her mother. From her vantage point in the afterlife, Eagan reflects back on her memories, and what she could have done differently, through her still-beating heart. When fourteen-year-old Amelia learns she will be getting a heart transplant, her fear and guilt battle with her joy at this new chance at life. And afterwards when she starts to feel different—dreaming about figure skating, craving grape candy—her need to learn about her donor leads her to discover and explore Eagan’s life, meeting her grieving loved ones and trying to bring the closure they all need to move on.
Gossamer
By Lois Lowry
I rate this book a 4 star because Lois Lowry shows her creativity of dreams and nightmares. I made a connection because John was in a nightmare which would happen to me at least every 2 weeks. This book seeks to tell the origin story of dreams by following a supernatural being called Littlest One, a fairy-like creature who, taking memories from common household objects, uses them to weave beautiful dreams. This is my review on this book, Gossamer.
The Big Break: A Julie Classic Volume 1 (American Girl Beforever Classic)

Dawn and the Impossible Three (Baby-Sitters Club)
By Ann M. Martin
Dawn Schafer is new to the BSC, so she has a lot to prove, not only to their clients but also to the BSC president, Kristy. So, when Dawn gets a job with three children, she thinks it will go relatively easy. Boy, was she wrong! With missing children, uncontrollable toddlers, and a messy mother to deal with, Dawn has her hands full. But she is not going to give up until she becomes friends with Kristy, and she can control the impossible three. Whichever comes first! I enjoyed this book because it was fun, lively, and a great page-turner. I suggest this for 8+ and people who like friendship and babysitting. Happy Reading!
