It's a perfect world, where everything looks right. But ugly truths lie beneath…

Imagine a world without poverty, war or pain. A world where everything is comfortable and familiar - a world where everything is the same. No colour, no music. In such a world, Jonas is selected to be the next Receiver of Memory and is apprenticed to the Giver, an old man who stores memories from the Community’s past. As Jonas learns about violence and sadness, as well as beauty and joy, he discover the sinister truth behind his safe existence.

Simply and beautifully written, The Giver is a thought-provoking look at utopian society. It was awarded the Newbery Medal in 1994.

This book is about a boy named Jonas in a comunity with no feelings or color. Jonas dosn't get to choose his job or any thing. When he gets his job he gets to have feelings and see colors and have memories from the past. Later he makes a plan to help everyone. Will he do it?

It is kind of sad that he has no feelings or color. In some parts of the book I felt like I could cry!

HEY GUYS!! THEY'RE MAKING THE MOVIE!!!

Really sweet

I like this book because i read the giver and it was an awesome book. You should read gathering blue and giver. You will really like it

This is a sad but but based on true events that have happened in this world.

I believe this is one of the best books in the world totally in my top hundreds. Its about a totally different community and how memories and elders are precious a tremendous book.

This book was awesome. Perfect middleschool book!!!!

This book is a good book. It is probably in the future where families are different than you would expect. Our community compared to the community expressed in The Giver is different. There are different rules, different things, and their ceremonies/religious events are sort of different.

I think that this book is awful. DON'T READ IT. The ending is confusing and has some uncomfortable subjects.

I read this in 6th grade. It's a really interesting book.
