This April Fools' Day - Create, Play And Eat Your Words!

Looking for something fun to do this April Fool's Day? Then check out your neighborhood for a Books2Eat event, an Edible Book Festival, where attendees, create, play and even eat their books!

The festival, now in its 10th year, was started by Judith A Hofberg, who came up with the idea, whilst celebrating Thanksgiving, with some book artists.

She decided to hold it on April 1st as a tribute to Jean-Anthelme Brillat-Savarin, an influential food writer, who was born on this day and also, because it's the perfect day to play and 'eat' your books. She thought of the festival as a way to celebrate the ingestion of culture by sharing a favorite book with friends - except in this case by eating not reading.

While the first 'festival' was attended by just a few friends and colleagues, its popularity has spread over the years, and it is now celebrated by book lovers in Australia, Brazil, Ireland, United Kingdom, Italy, USA and many other parts of the world.

According to Judith any individual or group can host an Edible Book Event, provided they follow three simple rules.

The event has to be held on April 1st, the edible creation must relate to a book, even if it's just the shape and, every organizer must register and post pictures of their creations on www.books2eat.com, so that the entire world can participate.

As the festival has evolved, some organizers have turned it into fun contests or a way to raise funds for charity, by charging an entrance to people who come to admire and eat the edible creations.
