Piecing Me Together

Piecing Me Together

By Renée Watson

Jade has attended a private school far away from her poor neighborhood for several years, and she tries to make the most of every opportunity she has. One of those opportunities is being invited to Women to Women, a mentorship program. But this opportunity doesn't seem like a positive to Jade, especially as she learns more about her mentor Maxine and their differences become more and more obvious. I loved this book! I felt like I was feeling Jade's emotions as she was navigating school troubles and relationships at home and with friends. The narrative was authentic and descriptive. I recommend this book to older kids, especially girls. I think that some of the plot would be harder to comprehend for younger kids. I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars.

Absolutely Normal Chaos

Absolutely Normal Chaos

By Sharon Creech

Rain

I am in 6th grade, and I read this in my free time. It isn't a hugely popular book, but I absolutely LOVE it! It has just the right amount of just about every emotion, and it is funny and sad in just the right places. I really enjoyed reading it, and it is now one of my all time favorites. I tried to read it in 1st grade, but it didn't interest me then. I think any girl (or maybe even boy, I'm not sure) 4th grade age or above will greatly enjoy this book. Like I said, it isn't totally popular, and I never would have heard of it if it weren't for my aunt. She was best friends with Sharon Creech's daughter. I only know one other book by Sharon Creech, and I haven't read it . . . yet. It's called Walk Two Moons, and I'm sure it will be just as good as Absolutely Normal Chaos.

Claudia and the Terrible Truth (Baby-Sitters Club (Quality))

Claudia and the Terrible Truth (Baby-Sitters Club (Quality))

By Ann Matthews Martin

This is a book in the baby sitters club series written by Ann M. Martin. In this book Claudia starts to notice some weird things while she is baby sitting two boys, Joey and Nathan. She thinks that Nathan and Joey's dad might be abusing them, but she isn't sure and doesn't want to step in where she doesn't belong. Read the book to find out what Claudia does. I gave this book 5 stars because it was really good and definitely one of the stronger baby sitters club books.

Confectionately Yours #3: Sugar and Spice

Confectionately Yours #3: Sugar and Spice

This was an okay book...So Hayley is still hanging out with Meghan, and Artie is starting to hang out with her too, because her drama friends have ditched her. One day during detention, Meghan comes up with a crazy idea...to have a talent show at the school. Hayley isn't very sure about it, while Artie doesn't want to do it. But before they have the show, they have to get Ms. Lang's; the drama teacher's approval first, and Ms. Lang doesn't really Meghan, Hayley, and Artie. Chloe's friend: Rupert is also moving away...

The Shadow Thieves (The Cronus Chronicles)

The Shadow Thieves (The Cronus Chronicles)

By Anne Ursu

This is a great book with a modern take on Greek mythology. Overall, it had strong characters and a strong, if not chaotic plotline. Comparable with Percy Jackson and the Olympians. (It's an especially good book during a long, somewhat painful Jewish holiday in which ALL of your mom's half of the family crams into your grandmother's house for three straight days and you literally have nothing to do. Oy vey.)

Lemons

Lemons

By Melissa Savage

Have you ever seen Bigfoot? Tobin Sky plans to. Lemonade LIberty Witt is a girl whose mom has recently passed away, and now she must live with her grandfather, Charlie. Here she meets Tobin Sky, CEO of Bigfoot Detectives Inc. After taking the oath, Lem is now an assistant at Bigfoot Detective Inc. They may have a clue when a resident of Willow Creek calls. Every clue gets Lem closer to solving the Bigfoot mystery, and accepting her new family. This was a cool book, with an interesting idea. I have never read a fictional book on the topic of Bigfoot. The characters were also very interesting. However, at time you cannot relate to the characters very well. You should try this book!

Fangirl: A Novel

Fangirl: A Novel

By Rainbow Rowell

Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell is absolutely amazing, With its instantly loveable characters and its realistic struggle for a real life fangirl (like myself), what's not to like? Cath Avery and her twin sister Wren are in the same college. It seems easy for Cath to enjoy college, right? However, Wren wants to break free of Cath. She chooses to get a different roommate than her sister. Cath has depended on her sister for everything. Cath has another problem. She is completely obsessed with the Simon Snow series. Being a fangirl is hard (I would know); it's a full-time job. Struggling to deal with her grades, her sister, a weird roommate and, of course, being a fangirl, can Cath survive her first year of college? I love Cath's devotion to her fandom and hope you will love it too!
