Timmy Failure: Mistakes Were Made
By Stephan Pastis
Timmy Failure is a detective. He runs Total Failure, Inc. with his pet polar bear. He takes all sorts of cases, and charges 5 cents a day, hoping that it will all add up one day so he can become rich – he already has his eye on a place in town. He uses his mom’s segway to get from case to case, but one day that segway gets stolen by the Evil One: Corrina Corrina. Timmy hates her; she also runs a Detective Agency that is sort of competition, and since her dad has a lot of money, her Agency has its’ home in a fancy building. So Timmy is off to find the segway, ALL while keeping it a secret from his mom. In a comical, humorous story, Pastis kicks off Timmy’s adventures in a lovable book. What I thought about it: I loved Timmy Failure. It was a great story in the format of Diary of a Wimpy Kid, but it was completely different and original. I was very happy that it was not just the “he has problems at school, and he isn’t a lucky person” type of illustration and novel. Stephan Pastis brought a new idea, and school is not the main focus, it’s Timmy’s Detective Agency. Timmy thinks he is the best detective in the world, even though his agency’s space is his mom’s closet. All of the characters were very unique, and thinking about a kid having a pet polar bear is quite out of this world, but yet it works in this book! I think Timmy is in his own little world – it’s him and his detective agency against the Evil One. Overall, I really enjoyed this book. It made me laugh out loud – it was clever and funny at the same time. I can’t wait to read the next book. Thumbs up for Timmy Failure!

The Sword Thief (The 39 Clues, Book 3)
By Peter Lerangis
This book is actually not bad when I first started reading it but when I start reading it was so interesting filled clues that is why it is called 39 clues. This book is about a girl that is 14 years of age and her younger brother named Dan who goes to Japan trying to find the sword thief the clues was filled with Japanese and they had to try finding the clues themselves they had some help from a girl I think Alistair yeah she helped them about the Japanese clues and to try to find all about the stuff the sword thief than they found a coin that looked like Harry potter thing it was called the philosophers stone and than they found another clue of how it was made and then they think there might be a lie for one of the chosen clues from their uncle. In the end they found the mystery after the sword thief and in the end Amy was very sick she went behind a tree and was terribly sick and the end. This book is funny a lot of secret stuff full with clues between pages and this was the first book I red of 39 clues.

Theodore Boone: Kid Lawyer
By John Grisham
Although the book progresses mostly on a lighter note, “Theodore Boone: Kid Lawyer” focuses the spotlight on many taboo subjects for young adult novels. With central topics like feminism, racism, illegal immigration, political outbreaks, drug abuse, and child abuse, John Grisham manages to effectively prod at touchy subjects with so much subtlety within each subplot, that even with lots of murder, smoking, and court cases scattered throughout the plot, through the eyes of thirteen-year-old Theodore Boone, “Kid Lawyer” is surprisingly appropriate. And with all of these dark themes, it comes as no surprise that there is indeed a lot to learn in this book. Each subplot takes the reader into a new and unexplored road, and although a suspenseful cliffhanger is presented towards the end of the book, the author still manages to quietly tie all of these themes up. This results in the reader feeling like they’ve actually read a complete book instead of a book with several different subplots, although that is precisely how it feels while reading it. John Grisham’s “Theodore Boone: Kid Lawyer” is many different things. Sometimes it’s a fight for justice, sometimes it’s a heart-wrenching story of family situation infused with drug and child abuse, sometimes it’s a guidebook on the court’s rules, and sometimes it’s about a murder-witnessing illegal immigrant’s unwillingness to provide the town with justice for fear of getting caught in the middle.
Detectives in Togas
By Henry Winterfeld
When my mother suggested I read Detectives in Togas, I wasn't very enthusiastic. I didn't like the cover of the book and why would I want to read a story about schoolboys living in Ancient Rome? In fact, Detectives in Togas is a whodunit which involves seven boys who live in Rome: Caius, Mucius, Rufus, Antonius, Publius, Julius, and Flavius. They all go to the same school and are all good friends. Their teacher is a Greek called Xanthos and he is very strict. One day, Caius starts annoying Rufus by poking him in the back while he's trying to work. Rufus decides to get his revenge and writes "Caius is a dumbbell" on a wax tablet and hangs it on the wall of the classroom. Caius is so angry about this he shouts out that Rufus' father is a coward! The two boys start to fight each other. Xanthos is furious to see fighting in his school and pulls them apart, but he can't understand how it all started. Suddenly, he spots Rufus' wax tablet and what's written on it. He says that that Rufus is a disgrace and that he should go home immediately and not return to the school ever again. Rufus is very upset. He packs up his school things and leaves the classroom, but he doesn't go home. From his desk, Mucius can see him sitting on a barrel by the side of the road. He seems to be waiting for something or someone. Then suddenly, Rufus jumps up and runs off, but not in the direction of his house. The next morning, Rufus and Caius are not at school. More mysterious, Xanthos is nowhere to be seen! The five boys start to search everywhere. Where could he be? And where is Rufus' wax tablet? And who has written "Caius is a dumbbell" on the temple wall in large red writing? Could it really be Rufus? If you enjoy mystery stories, you'll love Detectives in Togas, especially piecing all the clues together. You also end up learning loads of interesting information about Ancient Rome as you go along - and even a bit of Latin!
