The difficult thing to understand about The Blood Guard, is how Carter Roy came up with it. The twists. The shocks. The humor. The times you're angry at yourself for not realizing what was coming. I've finally got mine figured out though: Thirteen-year-old Evelyn Truelove (whose name really sucks, since he's a boy) takes far too many extracurricular activities. Fencing. Self-defense. Martial Arts. Metalworking. Gymnastics. And that's not even close to half. When his mom picks him up from school one day, speeds at an insanely abnormal rate, fights so-called "bad guys" in the middle of a street, drives through stairs, and pretty much abandons him at a train station in the hands of a pickpocket, he finally figures out why. His mother is part of The Blood Guard: a secret society with the goal of protecting the 36 Pures. To his utter astonishment, he meets Greta Sustermann along the way. Greta, the boastful, talkative, full-of-herself-girl, whose dad works at the FBI. Together, they go through an epic adventure, with some unexpected surprises along the way. A chair that saves a life. A guy who can't die? A man who, well, literarily loses his head, and then uses it as a weapon. A not-so-pure Pure. A traitor who never was a traitor. A fate that leaves you on the tips of your toes for a sequel.

This is a pretty good book about this boy named Jack who wakes up one day with a white V shape on his head! Later he blacks out and wakes up in what he thought was a hospital but soon finds out that it is actually a research center! There are three other kids with the same V shape on their heads! They find out that they are descendant of the royal family of Atlantis and carry this gene that would kill them unless they stayed there and took their treatment! The thing is that it would only protect them until they turn 14! So they have to travel around the world and find these lost items from Atlantis to create a antidote! This gene also takes there talents and turns them into super human abilities!

This is a great book about the adventure of Promi the street thieve and Atlanta who lives in the forest! One day Promo is caught for stealing and is thrown in the dungeon where he gains magic from the last of the listeners along with a sassy creature! Atlanta was born with magical green eyes and she draws it from her forest home! One day her home is threatened and she ends up in the city where she meets Promi! They join together to save the world and uncover Promi's past!

Tree Girl by T.A. Baron is a compelling book that unfolds the story of a girl who has always dreamed of her mother and longed for her, yet never met her. All the girl, Anna has ever had is the tree that she has befriended and the sea that calms her. Anna has always longed for many things - the hidden truth of her unknown mother, the mystery of her master, and the secrets of the forest. The forest - the place her master forbids her to go...and scares her with stories of the ghouls and bad spirits that inhabit it. But, Anna wants to push away the scary tales and foreboding and explore the forest. And will she? Disobey her master so she can learn the secrets of the woods? Does the forest and her mother somehow have a connection? Tree girl is an excellent story full of magic, friendship and courage!

Nightbird by Alice Hoffman is about a girl named Twig Fowler who's family is cursed. Along time ago, a witch cast a spell, saying that all the men and boys in the Fowler family would have wings. And so, for years, the family has been living away from the public eye, afraid of what might happen if someone knew their secret. When Twig meets a girl named Julia, who's great ancestor was the witch that cursed the Fowler family, the girls become strong friends. Then, Julia accidentally learns Twig's secret and the two girls start working together to reverse the curse that has haunted the Fowler family for generations...! This is a great book full of adventure, friendship and magic!

This is one of my favorite books ever. It is a wonderful story about sisterly love, facing your fears, and never giving up. Addie was always the shy one. Scared of spiders and strangers, griffins and ghosts. But it turns out that she is braver then she thinks. Meryl however, is daring and bold, funny and outgoing. She wants to go out into the world on adventures. But when Meryl becomes deathly ill with the 'grey death', Addie will do anything to save her. Gail Carson Levine's outstanding tale will captivate readers young and old.

Do you like William Shakespeare's 'A Midsummer's Night Dream?' Or are you a big fan of baking and creativity? If so, then this book is for you! Midsummer's Mayhem by Rajani LaRocaa is about a girl named Mimi who has always loved to bake in incorporate herbs into her creations. When Mimi visits the new cafe in the town of Comety called The While Away, she decides to join the the baking contest they are offering. As she tries her hardest to get to the top three in the contest, Mimi finds herself in one interesting adventure after the next. I loved reading this book full of enchantment, friendship, magic and flour, sugar and butter!

Here’s my review of The Colossus Rises. Enjoy! Jack McKinley is 13 years old. It is just a normal school day when he finds a weird V-shape on the back of his head, and gets hit by a car. Jack finds himself at a “hospital”, which he soon finds out is an Institute. Not just any institute, but the Karai Institute, on an island unplotted on maps, lead by Professor Bhegad. Jack meets three other kids that have the same “lamda” (if you are Greek, (like me!) you will know that it is basically a Greek L) on the back of their heads. Bhegad explains that it is a rare genetic marker: that they all have G7W and will die without treatments. They are on a mission: to find all of the lost Loculi and return them so Atlantis can regain its power. But it will prove challenging since there are seven of them; hidden in the seven ancient wonders of the world. In a thrilling start to what promises to be an epic series, Lerangis pens a tale full of action, loss, mythical creatures and ancient secrets that is sure to make readers anxious for a sequel. What I thought about it: The Colossus Rises was a very entertaining read. The first 30 pages were a little slow, but the pages that followed totally made up for it. I have read Peter Lerangis’ 39 Clues contributions, and they were pretty enjoyable. This book appealed to me: the cover, the author, the Seven Wonders. I think Lerangis’ idea is spectacular; with there being seven loculi in the seven wonders of the world. That means almost half of the books will be in Greece!!! I loved the rich description as they walk down the streets of Rhodes, and I just felt like I was in Greece. Also, the suspense was epic. Is he dead? Or not dead? Like, you are stuck trying to see if Lerangis has tricked you again, or not. The cover was pretty intense-it had me captivated, and was one of the main reasons for picking up the book. So overall, amazing book.

This Kingdom Keepers book starts out with a bit of a bang: the legendary Keepers find themselves during the start of Disneyland. Once they realize they've been transferred 60 years into the past, they find a younger Wayne and an even younger group of Overtakers. They task themselves with trying to prevent the Overtakers from destroying Disneyland in the past and retrieving Walt Disney's magical fountain pen. Meanwhile, Disney Imagineers are trying to figure out how to bring them back and the Keeper's Fairlie friends try to find out the dangers that threaten the Keepers by looking through old records. As he intertwines the stories, he creates a masterpiece for Disney lovers.

The first three were great! The fourth one was ok. It took me 2 months to finish number 5. Number 6 has been gathering dust on my bookshelf for a year. Chances of me reading number 7.... close to 0.
