The War that Saved My Life

The War that Saved My Life

By Kimberly Brubaker Bradley

This book takes place in World War II. Ava and her little brother Jamie are living with their abusive mother in a small apartment shack in London. Ava has an unfixed clubfoot, and because of it, Ava's mother doesn't let her go out in public, go to school, use a normal bathroom, and treats Ava like she is nothing but a burden in life. One day, Jamie finds out about a train taking kids to the country, where it will be safer than London when the bombs come. Ava's mother doesn't want Ava to go, but Ava sneaks out with Jamie and they take the train. When they arrive, nobody wants to take them in, so they are taken to a women named Susan. Susan does not have kids nor does she want kids, but she is forced to take them. At Susan's house, Ava's world is changed. For the first time in her life, she is allowed to go outside at free will. At Susan's house, she discovers so many new things, like grass and a horse named Butter, which she learns to ride. She gets three good meals a day, and gets to use a normal bathroom, not a bucket. Eventually, Ava and Jamie start to grow on Susan, and she starts to grow on them. Ava finally has someone to comfort her, and to tuck her in at night. She gets an education, and has the possibility to get her clubfoot fixed. And for the first time ever, Ava gets something she's never got before. Ava gets to be loved. The War That Saved My Life is a wonderful book. Kimberly Brubaker Bradley did an amazing job writing this book, and did a really great job having you connect with the character, as if you were right there beside her the whole time. I recommend this book to boys and girls ages 11+.

Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard, Book 2 The Hammer of Thor

Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard, Book 2 The Hammer of Thor

By Unknown

This Norse mythology masterpiece is written by Rick Riordan, the king of mythology writing. Unlike most of his books which are Greek mythology, this series Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard is Norse . I found it really unique that Mr.Riordan is writing Norse because it's something that took most of his readers (including me) by surprise. The Hammer of Thor is filled with laughs, action, and little tidbits from Norse mythology which makes learning about it fun, and is (in my opinion) better than The Sword of Summer Book 1. The one thing that blew me away was how Mr.Riordan incorporated his characters (Percy and Annabeth) from other books into his newest instalment of books, something I think is really hard and amazing and made the book even more fun to read. My friends described this book as "litty" but I call it a masterpiece (one of Riordan's best books yet) and is beautifully written. I do suggest reading the first book and of course reading the third book after #2. I recommend this for ages 9+ and die-hard Rick Riordan fans and give it 5/5 stars. HAPPY READINGS! The Kill Order (The Maze Runner)

The Kill Order (The Maze Runner)

By James Dashner

The book The Kill Order by James Dashner is a fantastic book. With Alec, Trina, Deedee, and Lana Mark fighting for their life against people with the flair. The people with the flair are called cranks. If the flair is not bad enough then people come, and hit them with darts that make them go even more crazy. There are five books in the series and the first three books have a movie to them. So if you like fear and adventure then this book is for you.

Brian's Hunt (A Hatchet Adventure)

Brian's Hunt (A Hatchet Adventure)

By Gary Paulsen

The book Brian's Hunt by Gary Paulsen is a wonderful read if you enjoy nature, exploring, and hunting. It is about this man named Brian and he was in a plane crash so he had to hunt for food so he would not starve to death. And he had to hunt really big animals so he would have a lot of food to use and not have to go hunting all the time. Another thing if you go hunting a lot some places in this book kinda tell you some hunting tips. Also if you like to build some stuff you would probably like it. Another thing is if you like to use a bow you should definitely read this book. Another main idea is he built a bow made out of wood. So if you like some of those things I would recommend this book for you to read.

Warriors: The Broken Code #1: Lost Stars

Warriors: The Broken Code #1: Lost Stars

By Erin Hunter

SO, some felines are doing stuff in this book of Warriors. It is number 1 in The Broken Code arc and tells the tale of three cats, Shadowpaw, Rootpaw, and Bristlepaw(later Bristlefrost). Rootpaw, in Skyclan, tries to be a "normal" warrior, meaning one that likes to FIGHT and kill innocent life forms to eat. He struggles with having Tree, a cat who is not a normal warrior as a father. Shadowpaw, in Shadowclan, receives mysterious visions. But other clans do not take him seriously. They say," AAAAAH. EEET is an evil plot to kill everyone! Oh no." And Bristlepaw, in Thunderclan, watches as something strange happens to her Clan's leader, Bramblestar. Well, the book is about how the Moonpool(that's how medicine cats get guided by Starclan, which is a bunch of dead warriors living in the sky) gets frozen, so no one can reach StarClan. Except maybe Shadowpaw, but as mentioned before, everyone says, "AAAAAAHHH. EEEET is an evil plot to kill everyone! Oh no." The visions tell of misbehaving kitties who are breaking the Warrior Code, and how everyone is DOOMED if something isn't done quickly. But what do those visions mean? Hmmm. I did not like this one very much because it had too little action. You will enjoy it if you like reading books about cats.
