Starry River of the Sky
By Grace Lin
“Starry River of the Sky” by Grace Lin is an amazing book. There are plenty of interesting Chinese stories and loving characters that you sympathize for. The story begins with a boy named Rendi arriving in the village of Clear Sky in a merchant’s dusty cart. Oddly, his only possessions are a cloth bag and beautiful porcelain rice bowl. However, when the merchant is giving a gang of wine to an innkeeper in the village, Rendi is discovered and thrown out of the cart. The innkeeper sees this and asks if Rendi wants a job, to help with chores around the inn. Rendi sees no other choice but to accept and helps him push the gang of wine inside the inn. After that, he meets the innkeeper (Master Chao’s) daughter, Peiyi. He arrives in a time where adults have to drink wine and little kids have to paint the 王 symbol on their heads to protect them from the Noxious Animals, because it is the Day of Five Poisons. Peiyi shows him around the inn and tells him about the Stone Pancake, which is a huge stone field stretching out into the horizon, seeming to never end. Peiyi tells him it is there because her ancestor moved a mountain that was once on the Stone Pancake. Rendi scoffs and tells her that is impossible. They dislike each other strongly. Later in the story we discover three more characters, under the name of Madame Chang, Mr. Shan, and the toad. We also find out more about Rendi’s backstory, and why the stone pancake ACTUALLY means, along with heart wrenching plot twists that will tear your heart. You will gasp along with the characters, shout with them, cry with them, laugh with them. I loved this book and I hope you did too.

Deenie
By Judy Blume
In the book ''Deenie'' there was a girl named Wilmadene but is called Deenie for short. Deenie was buetiful and her mom was always pestering her about her futureas a model. But the thing is Deenie didn't even want to be a model but no matter what her mom would always take her to modeling agencys. But who knew a problem with your spine could change everything especially make your own mom drive you even crazier. In this book review, I will be telling you some positives and negatives I had toward this book. One thing that I liked about this book was that Deenie's big sister Helen tried to comfort Deenie after finding out about her crooked spine. On page 66, it says ''Later Helen came to my room with a piece of chocolate cake and a glass of milk.'If I had scolisis I'd want to talk about it.''' A next positive that I liked was that Deenie's dad was strict about making Deeni keep her brace on until she got better. To prove that statement it says in page 142''The day I found out about your brace I promised myself I'd be firm'' I really admired all the support that Helen and Deenie's dad gave her. Don't you? I have a few negatives about this book and one of them is the fact that Deenie's parents does'nt push her hard enough to do her school work. In the book it says on page 7 ''Deenie's the buety and Helen's the brain'' To be honest with you I personally think that was mean don't you? A next negative opinion is on page 105, it says ''Daddy stood up and reached for my hand but I pulled away and wouldn't let him touch me.'' Deenie did that after her dad and her had a disaggreement. I just feel thatDeenie was acting a little spoiled. Don't you agree for her to do that to your own father who has been supporting you? The book Deenie was ok. The reason why I didn't reccomend it was becuase I felt the book was a little boring. But I enjoyed reading it a little.
Peter Pan
By J. M. Barrie
Me: Asleep in bed. Peter: Come with me to Neverland! Me: Wakes up Me: Are you a kidnapper or something? I mean, you' re standing on my bed holding a sword in your hand. Gosh, I don' t know how you got that Wendy girl to go with you, but I'm not going ANYWHERE. Peter: Oh c'mon! Don' t you want to meet the mermaids? Me: Ha! Nice try, kid, you know just as much as I do that those mermaids will "sweetly" drown me. Peter: I have treasure. Me: Now you're talk'in!
A Year Down Yonder
undefined
Mary Alice, age 15, feels very sorry for herself when she is put on a train by her parents (because they need to get a smaller house where there is no room for her) during the economic slump after "The Great War" (WW1), to live with her grandma (a woman known for being very active and having a gun) in a small town where everyone knows everything. I would recommend this book to age ten and up because it has some parts that are better for older kids (A painter tries to paint the post lady while she has not clothes on, and then a snake falls on her because the painter's studio is in the attic, and the post lady runs back to the post office screaming without her clothes on, and there is also a tiny bit of romance).
The Thief Lord
By Cornelia Funke
I think this is a awesome and very interesting book. The character are special and how they interact with each others, also the relationships between them make me feel alive. When I was reading the story, I feel nervous when Victor almost got them, I feel funny when they joke and get angry at each other, I feel differently. The story is very cool and as I was reading it, I feel like the characters are coming alive. After reading this story, it really reminds me of me and my best friends. When I was small, I always imagine and wanted to have a group of friends that forms a team that is very famous and powerful.
Dragon Rider
By Cornelia Funke
Because I love DRAGONS! So in this story it's almost all about mythical creatures and some made up ones! So a dragon named Firedrake has to leave his home to find the Rim Of Heavens for him and the rest of the dragons to live, so you think Firedrake is all alone right? Wrong! Firedrake is taking his best friend, a brownie girl named Sorrel and now later on in the story, they find a human boy named Ben and takes him along too. Now they don't know that there is a dragon named Nettlebrand he cant fly but he hunts silver dragons! So a gnome tells Nettlebrand and he makes his little servant named Twigleg go after them and find out where they are going! So Firedarke, Sorrel, and Ben don't know this so they found Twigleg and brought him along for the journey! We better hope them luck!
