Not Quite Narwhal

Not Quite Narwhal

By Jessie Sima

Madison

I love it because he’s a unicorn who lives with narwhals and thinks he’s one. Then he sees a unicorn so he swims up to land to get to the unicorn then he finds all of them he wants to live with the unicorns but all at the same time with his friends friends then he finds a way to live with both. I like it because it tells us a message that we all are different some same on the outside but so so different on the inside like pretend you’re favorite color is red and mines blue but somebody’s elses favorite color could be red too but we might have different favorite foods. I think you should read this book or if you’re having a bad day it might cheer you up. I think the nawale was cute!

The Witch's Boy

The Witch's Boy

By Kelly Barnhill

This book was very surprising, in a good way. When i first began reading it, I was a little bored, and almost considered stopping. But I decided to keep going, and so I finished the book. I am so glad I did! The Witch's Boy had an unique plot, something like which I have never seen before. The main character was Ned, who never spoke much after his twin brother. His mother was a witch, but then she had to travel away unexpectedly. While she is gone bandits show up to steal the magic his family guards. The only way to protect is to use it himself. Then he is kidnapped and must escape. Where is his mother? Why is the army gathering? What does the Bandit King's daughter have to do with anything? I recommend this book to all teens. There is violence, so it shouldn't be read by younger kids.

Blue Moon (Dead City)

Blue Moon (Dead City)

By James Ponti

Although I really enjoyed reading this book, I felt like it was kind of slow. While it still kept the beautiful light mood, I found this book predictable, beautifully so. This book I found really fun and funny, while still having some depth. I found lots of 2nd books about friendships and trust being tested, and while this book is the same, I found it shown from a different perspective. Instead of the usual, where the characters started distrusting each other, but have to put that aside because of some big turn or revelation, and then come out trusting each other more than ever, this book was able to bring in more characters into the web of good and bad relationships while still testing the ones who were already in the web. I found this book really fun. Like always, I would like to thank the author and everybody else who contributed to this book. I would recommend this book to people in middle school, and especially people who don't like to read. I found this book really exciting, and I hope you do too! Thanks!

Big Nate Goes Bananas!

Big Nate Goes Bananas!

By Lincoln Peirce

Big Nate is a book series that is funny...but it has some disrespectful comments, and for that reason my mom took it away from my brother. This book has some bad/mean comments saying bad things about your mom. "Your mama…." And it just goes downhill from there with bad words and even more things that young children should not be introduced to. Maybe 13-14 year old's.

By Joan Holub, Suzanne Williams

I liked Athena and Pallas's friendship. I also liked Athena's desire to make new friends in MOA. It reminded me of me trying to make new friends when I moved schools.

The Hound of the Baskervilles (A Penguin Classics Hardcover)

The Hound of the Baskervilles (A Penguin Classics Hardcover)

By Sir Arthur Conan Doyle

Habiba Sallam Hound of Baskervilles Book Review A book that is small in size can never meet the beauty standards of literature and possess its richness in metaphorical comparisons. However, this rule was broken in crime thriller novel written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and titled The Hound of the Baskerville. Sherlock Holmes along with his assistant Watson, notable for their talent in solving mysteries are called upon the moor by James Mortimer to investigate the murder of his patient and family friend. The victim was believed to be murdered by the supernatural hound following the Baskerville curse. This curse is a legend that runs through the family originating from the evil act of Sir Hugo’s when he kidnapped a girl. Upon arrival at the moor after his uncle's tragic murder, Sir Henry Baskerville decides to come back and investigate this curse with Holmes and Watson. To solve the mystery, the all collect different peices of the puzzle after meeting several suspects. One specific suspect was Stapleton whom they were able to track his history and find out that he lied about his sister who was actually his wife. At this point, Holmes digs in and even recognizes that Stapleton actually resembles Hugo's portrait, which might mean a desire for the Baskerville wealth. It has come to Watson that the Barrymore's who were the family servants found a letter signatured LL who was Laura Lyons. They decided to visit her and told her about Stapleton's marriage who spilled the beans about the hound and helped them resolve the curse. Fortunately, Stapleton trained his hound to attack the Baskerville whom was given Sir Henry’s belongings to smell but the younger sibling of the Mrs. Barrymore was dressed in Sir Henry’s clothes. The hound was found killed later when Stapleton instructed the hound to attack Sir Henry, when he was invited to the household. As a naturalist Stapleton treated others as animals as he treated his wife whom he beat after disrespecting and not participating in his plans . After spending a lot of time on the moor and on this case Sherlock Holmes and Watson are winners once again.
