The Swallow: A Ghost Story

The Swallow: A Ghost Story

By Charis Cotter

The Swallow I am reading The Swallow by Charis Cotter, it is a fantastic fiction book. This book is about two girls named Polly Laise and Winnifred Rose McPherson. Polly wants to see ghost badly but rose is different she wants to stop seeing ghost because she is bewitched. When the two of them met in their attics, they said to meet at the cemetery to see each other. Then They met each other at the cemetery, Rose told Polly to run because the ghost were coming to scare them, but suddenly Rose fell on a grave that had her name on it,“ Winnifred Rose McPherson.” They had to find out why Rose’s name was on the grave. They asked everyone, especially Kendrick, Rose’s nanny and she told about the other Winnifred Rose McPherson. I think this book is a fantastic fiction book because it is very detailed I think that because Chris Cotter really explained why they were there, and etc. I recommend this book to ages 9 - 11 because there are some hard words that some kids would not understand. Do you think that Rose and Polly will find out why Rose’s name was on the grave??

The Whispering House

The Whispering House

By Rebecca Wade

Our class is loving this book: It's suspense, its unfolding drama, its utter creepiness. When I read it on the carpet the other day, the kids got so scared they gathered around closer to my feet for comfort!

The Lonely Lake Monster (The Imaginary Veterinary)

Traitor in the Shipyard: A Caroline Mystery (American Girl Mysteries)

Traitor in the Shipyard: A Caroline Mystery (American Girl Mysteries)

By Kathleen Ernst

I have read many AG mysteries, and this one is one of my top 3. It has everything a mystery needs: action, creepiness, and a ton of heart. It is a great book for anyone who likes a mystery that the author took a lot of passion in writing.

Camo Girl

Camo Girl

By Kekla Magoon

I recently read the book Camo Girl by Kekla Magoon. In this book, a girl named Ella lives with her grandmother and mother. Her mother is only home on weekends because, she works the rest of the week. Ella's father died a few years ago. Ella's face is light brown and dark brown, that's why the kids tease her and call her Camo Face, or CF. Her only friend is Z. Z is very smart and also lost his father, his father left Z and his mom. When a new boy, Bailey moves to town Ella becomes friends with him when he is the only other African American kid in their school. Z starts to get jealous, and Ella must decide on what to do about it. She must also decide to stay friends with Z, or start hanging with the other kids. I thought this book was very sad, but I liked it even though it almost made me cry. If you don't like sad books, I would not recommend this book to you. The genre is realistic fiction because people actually have this skin condition and the events in this book could actually happen. Someone who would like this book, is someone who enjoys books about social rankings and bullying. Both of these things happen in this book. It is more of a girl book, so I wouldn't recommend it to boys, but they may enjoy it. This book is mainly a man vs self because, Ella is debating herself on sitting with Z or the other kids. Overall, I loved this book even when it was sad and totally recommend.
