The Secret Life of Bees

The Secret Life of Bees

By Sue Monk Kidd

"Place a beehive in my grave and let the honey soak through. When I'm dead and gone that's what I want from you." Singing songs like that is what Lily and her caregiver, Rosaleen, do when they run away from Lily's mean, uncaring father. Because this is set in the 1960's Rosaleen who is black gets put in jail. I think it's really exciting when Lily breaks her out. "I watched as the policeman put on his hat and walked down the corridor and out the door. When Rosaleen and I stepped from her room, I looked left, then right." This part seems really suspenseful and makes you want to keep reading to see what happens next. If you want to read a great book about beekeeping sisters, black Madonna and other funny adventures, I really recommend you read this book.

The Lost Twin (Scarlet and Ivy)

The Lost Twin (Scarlet and Ivy)

By Sophie Cleverly

I read this book a few years ago so I don't remember all the details, but I do remember how amazing it was and how obsessed I became with the series after reading it! Sadly, I only ever got up to the third book (I started reading the fourth on my dad's Kindle but never actually finished it) but maybe I'll start reading the series again. The book is a mystery about twin sisters and the crazy things they go through at their boarding school. It's AMAZINGGG.

Island of Fire (The Unwanteds)

Island of Fire (The Unwanteds)

By Lisa McMann

Island of Fire starts right where Island of Silence left off, and Alex and the rest of the inhabitants of Artimé are shocked that their incredible home just disappeared before their eyes. Everyone is living in a gray shack, surviving on what little food and water they have. Now Alex is their leader, and he has to figure out how to make Artimé come back before it is too late. Meghan and Samheed are still on Warbler Island, in complete darkness and unable to speak because of thorn necklaces sewn into their necks. With all of these burdens and responsibilities on his back, will Alex be able to handle it all? Will the Artiméans with thorn necklaces be able to speak again? In a wonderful third installment of a thrilling and enjoyable series, Island of Fire will leave readers wanting more. Lisa McMann strikes again with another excellent novel. My thoughts: I really enjoyed this book. It was a great addition to the Unwanteds series, and I can not wait for the following books. The description was great in this book, and Lisa does a great job of making the world of The Unwanteds series very vivid and realistic. Like book one and two, I absolutely LOVE the cover art. Owen Richardson is the perfect cover artist for this series. For some reason, even though it was 464 pages long I thought it was too short. Maybe it’s because there aren’t many words on the page, or that when I read it I was on a road trip. Lisa McMann, keep writing, and I will be reading. Can’t wait to see Lisa @ #AustinTeenBookFestival! :-) I truly can not wait to read book 4 (and see the cover and title); my guess for the title is Island of Water. I bet I’ll be like, “Told ya so! :-) Also, I want to thank Emma Sector at Simon and Schuster for sending me an ARC of this book. Thank you so much, Emma!

Anna and the French Kiss

Anna and the French Kiss

By Stephanie Perkins

This book was so good! It's really romantic, sweet and cute, but it's so much more than that. The book was also funny and unique. Instead of a simple sweet little romance, this book has quick witted, intense humor and its characters are simply out of this world. Anna, the protagonist, has the strongest voice, and all her actions and dialogue just showcases her personality even better, even when she has flaws and insecurities. I learned that you don't have to be perfect to be a hero. There were so many things that I loved in the book. For one, the plot - Anna and St.Clair start out as friends. Anna has feelings for a co-worker back at home in the States while St.Clair has a girlfriend that is much older than he is. The author doesn't rush the plot like some other authors do, instead she lets the whole story build up slowly, and that's what I really like about this book.

Grandpa's Great Escape

The Throne of Fire (The Kane Chronicles, Book 2)

The Throne of Fire (The Kane Chronicles, Book 2)

By Rick Riordan

Hey I still am not done with it but here is a summary so far In the pages 1- 384 of the book The Throne of Fire by Rick Riordan, Sadie and Carter are training young magicians, like them. Sadie and Carter have to find the book of Ra. (There are three parts to it.) The first part is at a museum, the second is in a desk, and the third is where they store mummies. Sadie and Carter went together on the first two, but not in the last. Carter wanted to find Zia, his secret crush. So Sadie went to find the scroll with Walt. Walt is a trainee magician. When they go to find the scroll, Sadie finds out something about Walt. Walt’s family was cursed! His curse was, if he did more magic he could die! When they found the last scroll, Sadie put it together and it said all the steps so Sadie and Carter fallowed them. First they made a portal on top of the Great Pyramid, and then they sailed to the fourth house with some challenges. After that the scrolls lead them to Ra. When they found Ra, he was acting like a baby. There was still one more step but they did not know what it was. When they went back to the lobby, the time was past the eighth hour; that meant they couldn’t go to the eighth house to figure out the next step. So they went to their father and mother. When they got there, Sadie and Carter told them about what happened, but they already knew. Their mom and dad invited a special, yet dangerous guest. The guest was the moon god. I don’t know what’s going to happen, but he is going to help them. My prediction is that the moon god is going to slow the time down to let them into the eighth house.
