Marcia's Madness (The Sisters Eight)

Marcia's Madness (The Sisters Eight)

By Lauren Baratz-Logsted, Greg Logsted, Jackie Logsted

I like that in every book one of the sisters finds out her power and she gets her gift. And all I will say about Marcia's power is... it took a while for the other sisters to find out her power. (I hope you can find out Marcia's power faster than her sisters did!)This book was a little confusing at first, but now I read it again and it made a lot more sense.

Bird

Bird

By Angela Johnson

The title of this story is quite simple “Bird”, which is also the main character’s nickname. Bird is a thirteen-year old runaway child. The reason she ran away is because of her step dad, Cecil, who left Bird and her mom without saying good-bye. Bird surely believes if she goes after him, he will certainly return to them. During the runaway days, bird made some friends. Cecil has a nephew named Ethan, who’s always been sick and lonely. He has just received a heart transplant and is healthier than he’s ever been. Bird becomes his first friend. She also met a boy named Jay, who’s getting over the death of his brother. Three of them are surviving something difficult to bear. I think the writing style of this book is really special. Each chapter is from a different character's perspective (Bird, Ethan or Jay), but by the end of the book, each of the characters are tied together. “Bird" is a beautiful written story and was easy to read. Even though I spent a bit time getting into the characters, I still enjoyed reading it.

When Lightning Comes in a Jar

When Lightning Comes in a Jar

By Patricia Polacco

Aliyah

Patricia Polacco When Lightning Comes in a Jar Have you ever been to a family reunion? “My dad’s family will come soon” Tricia said. “We might catch lightning in a jar.” Tricia’s grandma said. “It is going to be awesome this year.” I love this book because they went to a family reunion and I have not. I recommend this book if you are seven-years-old and up and if you like cliffhangers.

Willow Run

Willow Run

By Patricia Reilly Giff

Willow Run is a great book. In the story, Meggie is hoping that her brother Eddie will come back from the war. She lives in Rockaway, New York. Her Grandpa is a Nazi. One day some boys painted a swastika on her Grandpa's window. Meggie tried to hide it, but then disaster struck. Meggie's father had a new job making B - 14's in Michigan, and he wanted Meggie and her mom to come. To Grandpa, he offered him to come, but he said," No, thanks. I have a garden to grow, fish to catch, and what about Edward? Margaret may go, but what if Edward comes to an empty home? I must stay...." But there were tears in his eyes. Meggie didn't like it when her Grandpa called her and her brother by their real names, and she didn't really like to go fishing with him, so she was glad to go. But Meggie loved gardening, so leaving the garden will be kind of hard. Also, she wants to meet Eddie when he came home from the war. But Grandpa couldn't come, he would be in danger. And he mixed up his W's and V's, so she wouldn't want to stay home. so Meggie went along. If you read this book, you know what happens next. But if you haven't, read this book to find out!
