Kids Books - Children
Swim That Rock
By John Rocco, Jay Primiano
This book looks so good for kids like late elementary schoolers and middle schooners.
The Testing
By Joelle Charbonneau
This book... Isn't my favourite. It is like the hunger games, but with everything that made the hunger games so good taken out of it. (the gore, sadness, etc.) I read on one site that is was more optimistic, but it isn't! Cia, although resourceful, is too perfect for me... she doesn't have any flaws made clear to the audience. The characters don't have that much personality and description is sparse. It was alright, but could not be compared to the hunger games, Marie Lu's Legend, and all other books of this sort.
Mr. Popper's Penguins (Paperback)
undefined
This is a really funny book about how Mr. Popper, a very eccentric and interesting fellow, gets a pet penguin in the mail. This may sound like a weird book, and it is, but in a good way. Mr. Popper's penguin, who he names Captain Cook, is getting a little lonely so they decide to get another penguin, and they end up with a bunch of little baby penguins! Now these penguins aren't exactly the cheapest of pets, and the Popper family isn't exactly rich, so they decide to use the penguins to their advantage. They put on a show called "Mr. Popper's Penguins" and they go to lots of different theaters around the country. Now this did not toll well on the penguins so Mr. Popper finally gets his dream in the end (read this book to find out what it is.) This was a pretty easy read, so I would recommend it to elementary level readers.
Because Of Winn-Dixie
By Kate DiCamillo
I thought this book was good but not usually the type of book I would read. It has good storytelling but doesn't have a lot of action scenes. When I was reading it I felt bored sometimes because nothing excited was happening in that part. I liked this book because it always had questions running wild in my head. It is a book about a girl named Opal that just moved to a new town with her father. She feels very alone because she has no friends and her father is spending to much time on his job and not enough on her. Then she encounters a dog named Winn-Dixie and he changes her life. One of the things I most disliked about this book is I felt it took too long to get the climax and that the climax was really the only part with a lot of action and was exciting. The book itself is more intriguing than excited. One of the things I liked most about the book was how it always made me guess if something were to happen next or what was happing with a character that made him/her the way they are. I also liked how they kept teasing the return of a certain character and the result of the tease. All things considered, I would say the good thing outweighs the bad and it wasn't perfect so I think a 4-star rating if fair.
Who Was Abraham Lincoln?
By Janet Pascal
I gave this book a 4 because Abraham Lincoln was my favorite president and he was one of the best in my opinion. The books talks about Abraham Lincoln's presidency, life , and struggles. He lived during the Civil War, and had to try to stop it. He had 4 kids one died at age 4, and he was very sad. He didn't let it stop him from doing good in life. Finally he fought in the war to serve his country.
Who Was Ben Franklin?
By Dennis Brindell Fradin
Who Was Ben Franklin?, by Dennis Brindell Fradin, says that even if you have had sad times, you can still live an accomplished life. Benjamin Franklin was born in 1706 at Boston, Massachusetts, died in 1790, and had a miserable childhood. When Benjamin was still a teenager, he was an apprentice at his brother’s printing shop. His brother, however, was cruel to him, and he didn’t like his work. However, he moved to Pennslyvania and started a new life. He became a founding father of the U.S.A, and one of the best American inventors of all time. I recommend this biography for boys and girls, grades third to fifth.
Who Was Harriet Tubman?
By Yona Zeldis McDonough
Who Was Harriet Tubman is a truly inspiring book! It takes place at the time of slavery in the early 1800s. Harriet Tubman is a known hero who risked her life to free over 300 slaves on the Underground Railroad. This book describes her life and what it took to do the deeds she did. Throughout her whole life, she was helping people. I made a text to world connection because slavery made a big mark on the world and the people in it.
Who Was Amelia Earhart?
By Kate Boehm Jerome
The book’s genre is biography and it was written by Kate Boehm Jerome and illustrated by David Cain. The story is about a woman who shows she is brave and shows that women can work. It says on pg. 3 “Amelia’s action proved that bravery and brains were not for male only.” The main character of the story is Amelia Earhart because when she was a little girl she wanted to try to fly by using a small buggy. She pulled to the top of the shed. She side down but she bumps into the tree. She then made it not too steep and it was perfect. The two key events that happened in the story are in New York City and the store was the same as her name! It was called Amelia Earhart Flying Suit.” She wears a suit for speeches and she has over two hundred speeches. The main character changes from the beginning to the end by when she was a little girl she loved flying and in the middle she was taught how to fly a plane and each minute cost one dollar. She also helped poor kids that don’t have a family. She bought a plane and she tried to fly to Boston. In the end she wanted to fly all over the ocean but she didn’t fly to all the ocean because she was lost when she was flying in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. Some people helped but they did not find the place that she was looking for so she and her plane may land in the ocean. Some people think that she was alive at that time but no one knows if she is alive. One unanswered question I have after reading this book is “who found her plane in the Pacific Ocean”. I have this question because it says she and her plane went into the ocean. I most enjoy this book because she knows how to show that only men can work but women can’t have a job. I would recommend this book because she was a pilot but it does not mean that she comes from a cover wagon, it means that she has a special spirit.
Who is J.K. Rowling?
By Pam Pollack, Meg Belviso
this book is so good. j.k. rowling is a woman who created a series called harry potter. i also like this book because it informs me about rowling's life and important facts. i may also like this book because i have a soft spot for non-fiction books and the who is/ who was/ where was/ where is books. who is j.k. rowling also explains the difficulties and tragedies that j.k. rowling faces, which means that the author(s) is(are) trying to tell us that j.k. rowling is an important person to study about, or learn about. i rate this book 5 stars because this book informs me about a lot of success and tragedies about j.k. rowling.
