The stakes are higher than ever in the third installment of The Mysterious Benedict Society series by Trenton Lee Stewart. The story unfolds in a setting where Reynie, Kate, Sticky, and Constance - the four brilliant children recruited by a peculiar Mr. Benedict - are bored out of their minds. The house, though large and interesting, seems suffocating after a month of confinement; and the adults refuse to tell the foursome anything. When you're curious (a bit too much for your own good) like these four, this is quite a predicament. But something happens, something that would scare any rational child. Mr. Curtain's back with yet another of his evil plans, certain that he will not be thwarted this time. The worst part is, he's probably right. The four are fighting a downhill battle. And in the end, they have no choice but to be held prisoner by Mr. Curtain himself. And all the while, Mr. Pressius is bullying people worse than ever; Constance finds out things about herself that horrify and traumatize her; Kate is suppressing important feelings, and the children are inevitably divided, both mentally and physically. It looks like the end of the Mysterious Benedict Society, and when it's over, there's no going back. Enthralling, suspenseful, and indescribably gorgeous, this heartwrenching sequel will have the whole world on their feet.
In this one, a creepy guy shows up at Mr. Benedict's house claiming that Constance Contraire is his daughter, and poor Constance gets so scared that she runs away. Everyone else in the house splits up to find her, and the evil Mr. Curtain has the perfect chance to steal The Whisperer. The kids find Constance, and they think the find a clue to where Mr. Curtain is, but it turns out to be a trap. Read the book to find out what happens!!
SPOILER ALERT! If you have not read the first two books, do not read this. The Mysterious Benedict Society and the Prisoner’s Dilemma A Personal Novel Review by: Greg M The Mysterious Benedict Society and the Prisoner’s Dilemma is a very interesting book. The story is the third in a threequel in the story of The Mysterious Benedict Society. It’s about how a man named Ledroptha Curtain, Mr. Benedict’s brother, tries to use his brain washing machine called the Whisperer to take over the world. Mr. Benedict has recruited 4 kids in the previous books, and they are back. They all have special traits that help them in their adventures. The four kids are named Reynie, Sticky, Kate and Constance. Reynie is very clever and smart in a lot of different ways. Sticky reads a lot and has an amazing memory, so he remembers everything that he reads. Kate is very clever and physically capable of lots. She always carries around a bucket full of useful things. Constance is pretty whiny and complains a lot. But the twist is, she’s only 4 years old and capable of a lot of things and can even read minds! They really develop as characters, mainly because that was what the first book was about. The story is set in Stonetown, an old and sketchy town, which makes for a good setting with suspense and action. The setting makes for a very good Mystery story. Overall, I would recommend this book to kids above the age 11. If you are too young, you might not understand all the things being said by the characters.
This was the best siries/book I have ever read! It's about four orphans that mr Benedict picked to do a special job to save the world!
This story is about four kids/teenagers who make their way out after captured by Mr. Curtain. The main characters are Reynie, Sticky, Kate and Constance. They are special because each of them have unique talents compared to other children. I decided to read this book because I read the first one in the series. This story turned out to be disappointing because they didn’t meet a lot of obstacles in the way, and the story seemed to be missing a lot of sequence of events. The story wasn’t as mind turning as the first one and it wasn’t as adventurous as it as well, but it had some parts where they showed the characteristics of the characters really good.
This was one of the most perfect ways to end the trilogy (even though there are to others), I was really worried for the kids even though I knew they would beat Mr. Curtain!!
This book is good so far. I like all the action and tricks the kids have up their sleaves all the time
I loved this book! When they found Constance in the library I was relieved but when they were in the prison I was feared for them but it was obvious they would get out because they always do.
Mr. Curtain is back! He has a lot- I repeat a LOT- of really bad plans... Reynie, Constance, Kate, and Sticky are about to experience one of the most well-planned evil schemes in the history of... well, everything that any author has ever written. This is an extremely awesome book, and you will not be able to put it down! By the way, if you read this, you will have severe cases of disappointment when you discover that this author has only written 4 other kids books, at least two of which you have probably already read, as you have gotten this far in the series. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!
