A destructive force is about to hit the city of Joplin...

Eleven-year-old Dexter has always wanted to see a tornado. So when he gets the incredible opportunity to go storm chasing with the famous Dr. Norman Rays, he has to say yes! Dr. Rays is the host of Tornado Mysteries, the show that Dex and his older brother, Jeremy, watched every night until Jeremy joined the U.S. Navy SEALs and left Joplin.

Dex certainly knows how deadly tornadoes can be, but this one isn't heading toward Joplin, and wouldn't it be great to have a brave and exciting story of his own to tell Jeremy when he comes home? But when the tornado shifts direction, Dexter's bravery is about to get seriously tested...

I Survived is one of my favorite books I read this year and I really wish it was longer. It is a miraculous story about a town that gets hit by an EF-5 tornado and how they came together and rebuilt there city from scratch after everything was destroyed. All of the I Survived books in the series are great learning tools to teach about the past events of history.

I Survived the Joplin Tornado is an amazing book! It tells about how a fictional character survived a nonfiction and historical event, just like the other I Survived books. I definitely think it is a fun way to learn about historical events, and is a very touching story.

I Survived the Joplin Tornado 2011 is written by Lauren Tarshis. The book is great and it shows how Dexter can face a deadly EF5 tornado. And when he goes with his favorite storm chaser to see one, he will find out how deadly they really are. If you love tornadoes, than this would be a great book for you. I recommend this book for ages 9-12 and a reading level of 5.0 and 6.0. Will Dexter survive?
