I love Water Street, an amazing book by Patricia Reilly Giff because 13 year old Bridget Mallon (bird) who really wants to be a healer like her mother, lives in a tenement with her brother, her sister, and her parents. they are all getting along just fine but then Thomas Neary and his dad move in to a tenement in her building. When Bird goes to help her mother, Nory help heal a milk mans boy it becomes too much for her and she backs out. Bird thinks that now she can never be a healer because of what happened with the milk mans boy. but when Bird and Thomas make a unexpected friendship he helps her when she needs to use her talents and heal someone. I hope you read this awesome book and enjoy it as much as I did.
In this book Mr. and Mrs. Twit are ugly "because they thought ugly thoughts". the Twits love to play mean nasty tricks on each other and mr. twit has a disgusting beard that he never washes. The twits make bird pie and make their monkeys stand on their heads. I recommend this book to first-third grade.
