With over one million copies sold, this series of modern classics about the charming Penderwick family from National Book Award winner and New York Times bestseller Jeanne Birdsall is perfect for fans of Noel Streatfeild and Edward Eager.

This summer the Penderwick sisters have a wonderful surprise: a holiday on the grounds of a beautiful estate called Arundel. Soon they are busy discovering the summertime magic of Arundel’s sprawling gardens, treasure-filled attic, tame rabbits, and the cook who makes the best gingerbread in Massachusetts. But the best discovery of all is Jeffrey Tifton, son of Arundel’s owner, who quickly proves to be the perfect companion for their adventures.

The icy-hearted Mrs. Tifton is not as pleased with the Penderwicks as Jeffrey is, though, and warns the new friends to stay out of trouble. Which, of course, they will—won’t they? One thing’s for sure: it will be a summer the Penderwicks will never forget.

Deliciously nostalgic and quaintly witty, this is a story as breezy and carefree as a summer day.

There have been "interesting" summer vacations for everyone at least once in their life, but reading about this wacky summer is one you will never forget! Mr. Penderwick is the father of 4 very different daughters, whose names are... loving Rosalind, daring Skye, literary Jane, and lovable Batty. After their usual vacation home in Cape Cod is sold, Mr. Penderwick books a cottage in Berkshire Mountains, where they encounter the snobby Ms. Tifton, whom no one likes, except her affable son Jeffrey, who after a few accidents, becomes the Penderwicks' best friend. But when Jeffrey is going to be sent to an extremely strict military school by his soon-to-be evil stepfather, the Penderwicks rally up into action to save Jeffrey!

AMAZING!!! Batty is so cute and always has the most hilarious way of looking at things. Exactly like little kids in real life.😂 These sisters have been through thick and thin.

Great book!

Birdsall created a story for each of her characters, making it so easy to relate with at least one of them--and the bonds and breaks between each of them could make a dumb rock feel the way readers will. "The Penderwicks" began Summer for me---I've never read another book which made me feel the fun and adventure that comes with the holidays.

A good book. It tells the story of 4 sisters who go on vacation to the guest house of a mansion. Along the way they meet a strange boy.......

I liked this book because I liked the characters. Jane writes a book about a boy who was trapped in his room and she saves him in a hot air balloon. Skye likes math problems. Rosalind protected her younger sister Batty . Batty was the youngest, she loved her dog. Jeffrey the boy wanted to be a musician. Mrs. Tifton was Jeffrey's mother and she would never let Jeffrey talk to her. Dexter was just like Mrs. Tifton.

This is a very exciting story. I loved all the adventure that happens over the summer! I really liked the girl's wings. I think this is a great read for girls!
