Edith was hired as a companion when she was orphaned as a girl. She becomes basically part of the family. Mrs. Hamilton asks for Edith's help to find a match for Amy's cousin, Ida, and two gentlemen come to town. But soon it becomes clear that both find Edith the more attractive, and prefer her to Ida. Jealousy results, and trouble rises. This book is believed to be Louisa's first. It was later made into a movie. It is not my favorite book of Louisa's, and for the most part I kept reading because it was her book, but there were some interesting moments. I rate this book 3 out of 5 stars.
