I needed a book to read and a friend recommended Matched. It turned out to be one of the best books I have ever read. Cassia lives in a world where all the decisions are made for her: the food you eat, what you read and watch, who you marry, and when you die, just to name a few. She trusts and goes along with all of the decisions that the Society makes for her, just like everybody else. When Cassia turns 17, she gets "Matched", or finds out who her husband will be. She is thrilled that she is Matched with her best friend Xavier. Cassia is thrilled to be with Xavier, and knows he is the perfect one. But one night, she sees another boy's face on the screen. That boy's name is Ky. Cassia is led to believe that someone pulled a cruel prank by putting Ky's face on the screen, and is told to forget about Ky. But Cassia starts seeing Ky around town more and more, and soon, they are in love. Cassia knows that she should love Xavier and wants to love Xavier, but finds herself wanting Ky instead. What is she going to do? Choose the happy life with Xavier that she is told to have; or choose the dangerous life with Ky that could get her arrested, maybe even killed? Matched is such a great book. It talks a lot about standing up for your rights. Cassia's world is so interesting to learn about, too. I recommend this book to boys and girls ages 12+.
