The Moorchild (Newbery Honor Book)
By Eloise McGraw
The Moorchild by Eloise Mcgraw is a captivating story of a girl, half human and half fairy-folk who is put into a family in place of their own daughter. This books tells of Saaski's journey and her adventures as she struggles to find who she is and live among the villages who taunt, tease and are scared of her beacause she is different. The only comfort Saaski finds is playing odd tunes on her bagpipes in the moor. As Saaski grows older, the past and memories of the flok start to drift back into her mind, like dandelion flyaways, and she begins to wonder about where she came from and who she really is... This is such an amazing story filled with friendship, magic, courage, mystery and enchantment. I loved reading it and definitely recommend it to others!
Zane and the Hurricane: A Story of Katrina
By Rodman Philbrick
I completly agree with Mrs. Jagielski's comment on the book. A very emotional book. I cried a few times, like when he jumped out of the car to get Bandit, when the flood started, when Bandit almost died of heatstroke, and when Bandit got shot. But it is still an awesome book and i think that everyone should read it. BTW I love dogs thats why I cried a lot for Bandit :'(
[(On the Edge of the Dark Sea of Darkness: Adventure. Peril. Lost Jewels. and the Fearsome Toothy Cows of Skree. )] [Author: Andrew Peterson] [Mar-2008]
By Andrew Peterson
This book begins the epic Wingfeather Saga (my username? get it? i'm so obsessed!). The three Igiby children's lives were fairly quiet, until their dog got in a fight with one of the evil Fangs in town. Their lives are totally changed and they begin to find out the truth about themselves. This book isn't as tense as the rest of the series, but provides a wonderful introduction to the world of Aeirweir. Sadly, this book doesn't get a lot of attention, even though it's sooooooo good. Beware the toothy cows! (totally serious.)
Artemis Fowl and the Last Guardian
By Eoin Colfer
What an amazing way to end the series! But I don't think he should have brought back Opal Kobai for the fourth time! He should have brought in a new bad guy instead. I do think he should make a series about the childhood of one of the other main characters in the book. I would still recommend it for tweens.
River Secrets by Shannon Hale
By Shannon Hale
River Secrets is about Razo, the funny first guy who also tended animals with Enna and Isi. The third book to the Bayern series, Hales books just keep getting better and better. While I liked the other two books about the girls, I liked how this one was was told from the perspective of a boy and I really liked how this was a murder mystery also(hint, hint!!!)
Sun! One in a Billion (Our Universe)
By Stacy McAnulty
This is a good book that tells lots of facts about the sun. It mentions lots of things and says everything in a way that allures readers and makes them feel like the sun is a person who is talking to you in a friendly way. It puts a lot of effort to make stars or the Sun appear human, but Stacy McAnutly has absolutely nailed it.

Winterfrost
By Michelle Houts
Do you know what a nisse is? If you don’t a nisse is a Norwegian mythical creature. It’s a similar a leprechaun. That’s what this book is about. Winterfrost by Michelle Houts it is about a girl named Bettina and her baby sister Pia and the nisse. Bettina and her baby sister Pia were home alone one week because an unexpected event made their parents leave. Bettina was in charge of the house, the barn and Baby Pia. A tradition for their family is on Christmas eve they leave out a bowl of rice pudding in the barn for the tiny nisse to eat. This Christmas the family forgets to put out rice pudding and the nisse feels neglected. The antagonist is the nisse and the protagonist is Bettina and Pia. One morning Bettina wakes up and there was a winterfrost which was very rare in Denmark. Bettina decides to put Pia in her crib to take a nap. As Pia was sleeping Bettina got tired too and slowly fell asleep. When Bettina wakes up she went to check on her and Pia was gone! Bettina got very worried so she went looking for her around the house and she wasn't there. She decides to look outside to see if she was there. As she walked out she saw something red moving super fast. She kept walking and she saw it again and again until she decided to follow it. It led her to a very very small house underneath a tree stump. She opened the door and she saw house full of nisse. I recommend this book to 10-13 year olds because Bettina is around that age.
The Time of the Fireflies
By Kimberley Griffiths Little
What's creepy, mysterious, and that you can really relate too? It's The Time of the Fireflies by Kimberly Griffiths Little. It's very, very creepy and mysterious, if I haven't made that clear already. But the girl in the story, Larissa can be related to by almost anyone! Larissa's family has just moved to this new town where her mother lived when she grew up. They live in an antique shop, but there's one thing that they don't sell. They keep it in a locked glass box. It is a doll. An heirloom, really. With secrets from the past. Larissa receives a message on an old phone that's not supposed to work. It says: Follow the Fireflies. Trust the fireflies. Larissa finds the fireflies and goes back in time to when her great, great grandmother was a little girl and realizes that the doll was there since then. And everything bad that happened to the people in Larissa's family, the doll had seen it. When she gets back, her mother has news that she is going to have a baby girl. But the next day, her mom and the doll are gone. Her mother must have taken her doll with her. If everything Larissa knows about the doll is true, then her mother is in danger. Grave danger. Through suspense, and magic a secretive and mysterious book is unleashed: The Time of the Fireflies.
