A Tale of Magic...

A Tale of Magic...

By Chris Colfer

14-year-old Brystal Evergreen's favorite activity is reading. The problem is, in the Southern Kingdom, girls are trained to be wives when they grow up. This means that instead of studying subjects like math or science, girls are taught how to serve the right amount of tea or how to curtsy One day after school while walking past the library(which she is not allowed to enter) Brystal sees a help wanted sign for a maid. It's the perfect excuse for going into the library and reading all the books! Brystal quickly applies for the job. Soon, while cleaning the library, Brstal finds a secret passageway that leads to dozens of books. Why would someone need to hide books? She discovers that the books are banned, and they are all about topics like how the justices banished the trolls because they wanted their land. All the authors were executed, except for one. The book is called The Truth About Magic, and obviously, it is about magic. Brystal discovers that she is actually a fairy! In a matter of days, Brystal is sent to the Bootstrap Correctional Facility for Young Women. The facility "cures" fairies by making them do chores like digging holes in the ground and making shoes. One day, a strange fairy named Madame Weatherberry visits the facility. To her astonishment, Madame Weatherberry chooses Brystall for a school or fairies. Brystal learns how to use her powers. But in the end, how will they show the public that fairies are good? I liked this book because it had a twist at the end that I wasn't expecting. This book is great for people who like fantasy.

Hollow City (Miss Peregrine's Peculiar Children)

Hollow City (Miss Peregrine's Peculiar Children)

By Ransom Riggs

Warning: Spoilers Ahead So, I thought this book was good. It had amazing character development, fascinating backstories, and I loved how the pictures fit so well in the book. I loved Emma's character, and how realistically she felt about Jacob, and how the settings in this book were so detailed and different than the other. I liked how Jacob actually thought about his family instead of having them completely thrown out the story. I'm especially intrigued by Millard, and his love for knowledge (particularly about Peculiars) and I thought the the entire history of Peculiars and how the Wights were looking for Peculairs' souls was very original. The humor in this book is perfect, and I love the interactions between all of them. I love how Bronwyn is sort of like a mother/big sister towards Claire and Olive. The cliffhanger at the end was perfect, and I don't think I would a change a thing about this book. AWESOME BOOK 10/10

Inkling

Inkling

By Kenneth Oppel

Henry D

“Splat!” a living splotch of ink escapes from a sketchbook. The name of this book is Inkling. The Author of this book is Kenneth Oppel. The year this book was published was 2018. This is a well written book that is funny and good for all good for all ages. First what happened in the book was Ethan meets a living splotch of ink that came from his father’s sketchbook. Next , the living blob of ink named Inkling helps Ethan with drawing. Then, Inkling starts to give Ethan drawing lessons. After, Vika Ethan’s classmate and mortal enemy finds out about inkling and steals him. Finally Ethan gets Inkling back and Ethan’s sister gets a dog. Here is one of the things I liked about the book. What I liked most about the book Inkling was how unique the characters were. No two of the characters are alike. Each of the ways the characters think and act are different from each other. I remember most of the book but the most memorable part was when Inking escaped from Ethan's father’s sketchbook. First what happened was Inkling pulled all his ink into the center of the book. Then he kept trying to pull himself out. Finally he shot out of the sketchbook with a great leap. Inkling is a funny well written book and is good for all ages. I recommend this book to people who like books that are longer. I also recommend it to people who like fiction books. I don’t recommend this book to people who like picture books or non-fiction books because Inkling is a fictional chapter book.

The Black Stallion

The Black Stallion

By Walter Farley

M.T In the beginning of the book Alec Ramsey goes on the Drake (a boat to get to New York) and the boat started to sink and while the boat was sinking, Alec got saved by a huge stallion. The Black(the stallion) brought Alec to a random island. On the island, Alec got the ride of his life! Then a few days later a boat came to save Alec and the Black. Then when Alec and the black got to New York, the Black and another stallion got in a fight. The other stallion was a chestnut color. When Alec got home, ( to his house) he went to his neighbors house and asked if Alec could use their barn. When Ale c's neighbor Henry saw the Black, he knew right away that the Back could race in the match race between Cyclone and Sun Raider. Every morning at 2:00, Henry took the Black and Alec to a track that Henry's friend Jake worked at. Then after a lot of training, Alec, Henry, and the Black went to the match race between Cyclone and Sun Raider in Chicago. When the match race was about to start, Sun Raider kicked the Black and the Black started to bleed. Then when the match race started the Black had to stay behind and then the Black started to race the other horses so that the Black could win. Then the Black won the match race. I would recommend this book to other people.
