Ashes

Ashes

By Kathryn Lasky

"In wartime, nothing is safe" In Berlin, 1932, Thirteen-year- old Gabriella Schramm lived a happy and privileged life. As Hitler rises to power, everything suddenly became quite unreal as though nothing could have any consequences. People who were once trustworthy are now Nazis. Gaby and her best friend Rosa seemed to realize the transformations of their lives and the agonies of their country during the rise of Hitler. To face the reality, Gaby turns to the comfort of her books, but suddenly those are in grave danger of disappearing as well. To Gaby, holding on to the one thing she loved the most was never so hard. "I could still see Berlin faintly, its buildings rising like a scratchy calligraphy, words in a sentence strung across a page. A page I couldn't quite read" Through a young women, Kathryn Lasky describes a personal and political history that will haunt readers. I would give this book a 101/100 if you ask me to rate it. Reading this book, I imagine myself as Gaby. I smelled the ashes she smelled and I felt my own eyes stinging as Gaby saw the sea of brown uniforms. I really enjoy this page-turning book because every word from this book affected me deeply. I recommend this book to all ages and genders because Gaby's gripping story will haunt everyone.

I Survived the Children’s Blizzard, 1888 (I Survived #16)

I Survived the Children’s Blizzard, 1888 (I Survived #16)

By Lauren Tarshis

“A deadly blizzard raged across the prairie, and eleven-year-old John Hale was trapped in a frozen nightmare.” I Survived; The Children’s Blizzard, 1888 is a beautiful masterpiece. I am a huge fan of Historical Fiction. Give me anything Historical fiction and I will surely read it on the spot. The I Survived series in particular is made up of many children that survived historical disasters. This I Survived book is 108 pages long. It was a quick read for me, probably took me a day to finish. After I read this novel, it got me interested in The Children’s Blizzard. And, WOW, people actually made houses out of mud! ***CHARACTERS*** John- John’s life is pretty dang interesting. What I really like is that even though John isn’t necessarily a real person, but someone his age actually experienced what he did. And who knows? Maybe the real kid’s name is John Hale. Oh! And how can I forget when John is looking for his little sister, Franny, in the cold? That was heart-breaking, and it got me on the edge of my seat. ***SETTING*** I ADORE the detail in the setting so much! It is just so interesting to see how people actually lived in 1888. It is even more interesting to see how young children actually survived a brutal snow storm.   In all, I really liked this book. I am sure now that I will read every I Survived novel. Lauren Tarshis’s writing is accurate and enjoyable! Five stars from me! I received this copy of I Survived; The Children’s Blizzard, 1888 from DogoBooks, this has not influenced my opinion.

Nick and Tesla's High-Voltage Danger Lab: A Mystery with Electromagnets, Burglar Alarms, and Other Gadgets You Can Build Yourself

By Bob Pflugfelder, Steve Hockensmith

This book has very funny adventures. I really enjoyed this grade 4 240 page book. Actually I am named after Nikola Tesla and who always wanted to be a mathematician and very intelligent with it. My second favorite subject, science, is a very fascinating which I learn a lot. My parents are biochemists and like to study biochemistry a lot (favorite hobby). Nick and Tesla discover really dangerous adventures like high-voltage. I also liked the mysterious part when they found many gadgets. The best part I liked was the part when they found a voltage lightning lab KABOOM. That's why I liked this book so much and 5 rated it. LOVED SO MUCH 5 star

Spaced Out (Moon Base Alpha)

Spaced Out (Moon Base Alpha)

By Stuart Gibbs

Stuart Gibbs second book in the MBA series is as fantastic as the first. In this installment, Dashiell Gibson is still on Moon Base Alpha, a small moon station. Since it is a small place to live in space, everyone is shocked when the leader, Nina Stack, disappears from the base. Now it's up to Dash, again, to save their fearless and quite emotionless leader. But all clues lead to nowhere, and he might end up needing more help than he ever thought, and only one thing is for sure: The people in danger could be convicted themselves, and that means EVERYONE can be a suspect, even the ones in trouble. With his own secret on the line, and a friend who can help, Dash must find out where Nina went in order to keep everyone on the base alive. He needs all the clues he can get, but even alongside the people he trusts, could this mystery be too much for Dash to handle? I really liked this book, and I know you guys wouldn't want to miss out on such a fun filled mystery! Hope you enjoy this second book of MBA by Stuart Gibbs!
