Dorko the Magnificent
By Andrea Beaty
Robbie Darko wants to be a world-famous magician. He has done several acts, some of them in the talent show, but they haven’t always turned out so great. Today is his mom’s birthday and he wants to do a special magic trick for her-pulling the tablecloth out from under the china set on the table. A few days after the bad turnout of the trick, Grandma Melvin, Robbie’s grandma, offers to teach him magic lessons. With the talent show coming close, will Grandma Melvin help him? Or will she just sit and watch The Wheel Of Fortune while she is laughing at him? In a enjoyable and magical story, Beaty keeps fans cheering for her and Robbie until the very last page. My thoughts: I really loved this book. The cover is pretty awesome and you want to know something weird? The first time I saw the cover I thought the rabbit was a grandma. Call me crazy, but I promise you. I loved all the magic in this story; Robbie Darko is trying so hard to end his years at Elementary School with a bang, so he can be remembered there for years to come. The grandma is so crazy; in a good way. She thinks that the “zoysia grass is attacking her” and yells at the TV. She is such a character, and was written very skillfully. The added bits of humor in this Middle-Grade story were wonderful, and I think I will check out more books by Andrea Beaty.
A Plague of Unicorns
By Jane Yolen
This book is absolutely amazing. You actually learn a little about how life was centuries ago while indulging in some great fantasy writing. If you like the dark ages and you like unicorns than you will love this book.
Garden Princess
By Kristin Kladstrup
This book really took me by suprise. It is a soft love story that takes place, in of course, a garden. Princess Adela is not the kind of Princess most people want her to be, she would rather spend time in the soil than in her duties. When her closest friend, the gardener, Garth, she comes along and discovers a couple secrets considering their hostess, Lady Hortensia. Let's just say, don't judge a flower by it's cover. After Adela manages to escape, she can't seem to stop thinking about the black bird, whom she restored to his human form. Equally odd, he feels the same way. THis novel is a good read that is a mystery, an adventure, and a soft love story.
Dog Magic (Animal Magic (Scholastic))
By Holly Webb
If you like Dogmagic you should read Catmagic. Catmagic is a great book because... The characters are suspicious. The author used a lot of detail. The main character has to go to a different school because her mom is away at work so she is staying with her uncle. Her uncles house is a pet shop! The animals act like there hiding something? Are they special. I don’t want to give to much away but Catmagic is PURRfectly magical.
The Return of the Indian
By Lynne Reid Banks
I got the whole series from my mom and dad. I am reading the second one, is awesome so far!!
The Complete Borrowers
By Mary Norton
I want to read this series after I am done with my book list. They seem like a good book if you like the Brian Jaques series, Redwall. From what I know, they are about a family of small people who .live in the walls of a person's house.
100% Wolf
By Jayne Lyons
This book is very funny because there is a boy named Freddy Lupin and he lived with his uncle named uncle hotspur and in his first transwolfation, he turns into a poodle instead of a wolf [you will be upset too!!]. Then his cousins named Harriot and Carriot captured him and then his moonstone lit up because somebody was near his home!!Then he ran away and then he found a dog named batty and then one day, they were stealing sasages from the meat store and ended up in Coldfox. Then the next day they were trying to find a way out of coldfox.then they throwed Freddy in the ghost hound chamber and found out that it was his dad!!Then they escaped and went home to destroyed hotsper because he wanted to kill his father because he wanted to be The Grand Growler so they defeated hotsper and then freddy can turn into a wolf and a poodle and now he was a hero.
