Ida B: . . . and Her Plans to Maximize Fun, Avoid Disaster, and (Possibly) Save the World

Ida B: . . . and Her Plans to Maximize Fun, Avoid Disaster, and (Possibly) Save the World

By Katherine Hannigan

I always see inspirational poems and quotes all around my school, which really made me think about this book. Fourth grader Ida B is always living her life the same, by going outside and listening to the trees talk when all of a sudden the punk out of the trees ,Paulie T, warns Ida B about something bad that is going to happen. Of course Paulie T never tells the truth so Ida B doesn't believe him. Ida B soon finds out she is going to have to go to school and she is excited. When she got to school everything goes bad, her teacher calls her Ida (which you don't call her that because that's her mom's name,)she has to follow a LOT of rules, and doesn't get to have fun. So eventually after two weeks in school her parents announce that she is going to be home-schooled. Everything was fine until a couple years later, on one early morning ,her parents aren't acting the same. She asks what happened and they refuse to tell. Later they finally confess to her mom being diagnosed with cancer. Read more to see what happened! My connection to this book is that my grandma got diagnosed with cancer and passed away a month later.

Travel Team

Travel Team

By Mike Lupica

Travel Team is about 12 year Danny Walker, an amazing basketball player. He has always been the smallest on the court but at the same time he was one of the best. So when Danny gets cut from his 7th grade travel team, the same team his NBA star father, Richie Walker lead to victory, Danny is devastated. Richie soon comes to visit but finds out he will be staying, to create his own team. The team may run into rivalry's but they are also giving the underdogs a chance for once. I would recommend this book to anyone who can relate to being the underdog or who plays basketball their selves.

The Help

The Help

By Kathryn Stockett

The Help Help: to give aid; be of service or advantage. Help is always in the shape or form you think it would be. My book is named The Help the author is Kathryn Stockett. The setting is Jackson, Mississippi 1962. Aibleen is a maid who works for Miss Leefolt she is also the protagonist the other protagonists are Minny Miss Celia Foote, Mister Johnny, all of the other maids, and last but not least Miss Skeeter. The antagonist is Miss Hilly. She dislikes Aibleen and Minny. In this great realistic fiction book Miss Skeeter’s mom gets diagnosed with cancer. It gets harder for Miss Skeeter and her mom. During the story Aibleen, the maids, and Miss Skeeter make a book about how the maids are treated and their life. During a talk show (when the book is published) one man says it might be about Jackson, Mississippi and the maids get worried there bosses will find out because they made it very secretive and disingenuous. I liked this book because i thought that the storyline was very interesting and bold. I would recommend this book to people who like realistic fiction books about history WARNING= SWEARS probably seventh graders and up!

Teen Agent

Teen Agent

By Chris Everheart

I read this book and it isnt very good. It doesn't make sense and it really confused me. What is the point of having those sections? They are all about the same topic. Why would someone just want to confuse us? Do not read this book.

The Return of the King

The Return of the King

By J. R. R. Tolkien

So far, this has been an extremely interesting book. It has been very exciting with many interesting events. I chose to read this book because I have already read the first 2 books (The fellowship of the ring and the two towers) which have been very interesting so I thought I would like to read this one. It has not disappointed me. I would highly recommend this book.

The Little Prince

The Little Prince

By Antoine de Saint-Exupery

wonder

The Little Prince, written by Antoine De Saint Exupery, was first published in 1943. This book took place six years before the sahara desert time period. This book was told by a pilot. There are three chief characters. They’re the narrator which is the character who tells the beginning of the book about his own childhood, then he tells a story about him and the Little Prince meeting which soon become friends; then there's the Little Prince who is a character who is a kid from another small planet who is very lovable kid;then there's the fox who the Little Prince encounters in the desert and they both be friends later in the story. The book begins with the little prince appearing on the Sahara desert and meeting a pilot of who has accidentally landed there because his plane. Later on after getting to know one another they decide to friends, and then they meet a fox who tells them the secret of life. Then they meet the snake which is hard to understand him because he talks in riddles. Then something terrible happens pilot and the little prince are now dying of thirst, but then as they are walking through the desert they find some water and it taste good but sweet. Sadly the Little Prince said that he was leaving the next morning, one year since they left pilot went to the very spot where they met and hears the little prince’s laughter from above. My feelings throughout the book was in the beginning I felt happy about pilot finally having a friend then throughout the story I got even more happy because of all the other friends that he has met. Later towards the end I got really sad because the little prince had to go, especially when it was there one year anniversary and pilot went to the very spot where they first met and was thinking of all of the happy memories together. I did learn and I became more aware of my surroundings and to enjoy it while it’s still around. I learned that because when little prince left. I especially liked the fox in the book because he shared the secrets of life when he teaches the little prince the importance of friendship. The story had a good theme which was all about the value of friendship because throughout the story both the little prince and the pilot meet a lot of people and all those people teach a lesson but mainly the important thing is that they all learned friendship.

Big Nate Goes Bananas!

Big Nate Goes Bananas!

By Lincoln Peirce

Big Nate is a book series that is funny...but it has some disrespectful comments, and for that reason my mom took it away from my brother. This book has some bad/mean comments saying bad things about your mom. "Your mama…." And it just goes downhill from there with bad words and even more things that young children should not be introduced to. Maybe 13-14 year old's.

Boys Start the War, The

Boys Start the War, The

By Phyllis Reynolds Naylor

I loved this book so so so so much!!!!!!!!!!! It is a great realistic fiction story. It is about four boys whose best friends ( there neighbors ) move to Georgia and then three girls move in. I the story, both the boys and girls pull pranks on each-another. I think this book is meant for both boys and girls because in the story the author made it so it switched off between the boys perspective and the girls perspective. I think the message in this story is ''You can never have too much fun''. I hope you like it!!!!!!!
