The Genius Files: Mission Unstoppable
By Dan Gutman
Novel Pending
This book was surprisingly good. My family and I go on lots of long car trips and we like to listen to audiobooks, but it can be very difficult to find stories that match all of our interests. Since this site is just for the book itself I won't rate the audiobook itself (read by Micheal Goldstrom) but I have to say it was delivered wonderfully. I also won't go into the plot either because, for one thing, there's a summary right there, and I don't want to spoil anything. The Genius Files, as a series overall, can get monotonous. You could say the story is broken into chapter clusters, which all go about the same way. The McDonalds have been driving for hours when Mrs. McDonald suddenly announces an oddball tourist trap that she can use on her popular and ridiculous site, Amazing but True. Dr. McDonald, Coke, and Pepsi all protest, but end up following along anyway. Somehow or another, the twins get separated from their parents and are confronted by their health teacher, Mrs. Higgins, or the nefarious "Bowler Dudes" who attempt to kill them in an absurd way, (including being trapped in a burning school, getting buried alive in the Singing Sand Dunes, getting lowered into a bubbling vat of SPAM, getting shocked to death with electricity, lowered into boiling oil, and having a variety of things dropped onto their heads including a chest of drawers, a concrete brain, and a dead cow.) but they escape, and Coke rips his shirt in the process. Despite the cookie-cutter format, it can be said that the book is full of tidbit trivia, spot-on humor, and defiant action. I would recommend to upper-elementary kids and families looking to have a good time. I would give it four and a half stars, but say in this instance, it rounds up.

Mercy Watson to the Rescue
By Kate DiCamillo
When the Watsons bed starts to sink through the roof, Mercy jumps off. The Watsons assume she is going off to get help, however Mercy has other plans. The neighbors get annoyed by Mercy, so they call for help. This leads to the people they called for help discovering that the Watsons bed is going through the roof. The Watsons assume that Mercy intentionally did that, however all she wanted were sugar cookies. Mercy is a hero. Overall, I think that this book was hilarious, and the illustrations were so funny. I recommend this to people who enjoy comedy, or people who enjoy the other books by this author. I rate this book 5/5.

Drums, Girls & Dangerous Pie
By Jordan Sonnenblick
If you loved Rodman Philbrick's The Mighty or Gennifer Choldenko's Al Capone series, you will absolutely LOVE this book! Steven is your average 8th grader, whose not popular, but not unpopular either. He plays drums for a city band, likes a hot girl, and has a hyperactive brother named Jeffery. His life turns around when he hears four words. "Your brother has leukemia." As Jeffrey is in and out of the hospital, Steven suffers in many areas of his life: school, family, girls, money, and leukemia. But if one thing helps Steven get out of whack, it's Jeffery who is always there. Somehow, Steven gets through things by what his guidance counselor told him, "Instead of agonizing about the things you can't change, why don't you try working on the things you CAN change?" Through this one quote, Steven brings up his grades, loses his lackadaisical attitude, shaves his hair to help Jeffrey cope with the loss of his hair, and ends up becoming the popular kid by supporting his brother. When a fundraiser comes up supporting Jeffrey, and Steven has to play drums, he is prepared for this. But when Jeffrey has to go to the hospital right before his big solo, Steven leaves to support his brother. This story really, truly shows the effects of love.
The Tapper Twins Go to War (With Each Other)
By Geoff Rodkey
What's wrong with a little pranking among siblings? In this case - everything. It all started with a toaster cake and a huge misunderstanding - soon, both Claudia and Reese wanted serious revenge on each other. What started as a petty prank war soon escalated with something bigger - with Claudia desperate to publicly humiliate Reese. All her attempts fail because, unlike any human being, Reese doesn't care about being humiliated. On the other hand, Reese is desperate for a win - so he enlists his "evil" friend Xander to help. He overhears Claudia singing a horrible, falsetto song about Jens, who Claudia has a crush on, and Reese and Xander upload it to ClickChat (the social media in this book.) Soon, Claudia becomes cyber-bullied, horrified, humiliated, embarrassed, and really, just wants to kill Reese and Xander. She already knows humiliation doesn't work.. so what does? She soon works her way to the answer - MetaWorld (pretty much the same as Minecraft), which Reese and Xander play all hours of the day (when they're not playing soccer). She concocts a brilliant plan to destroy Xander and Reese's huge empire on MetaWorld (with the help of the admin of MetaWorld, Akash) and ultimately kills Reese and Xander in every deathmatch, kills all their soldiers, destroys their huge castles, and basically demolishes their empires. But Claudia doesn't feel good or satisfied when she's doing all this - she feels pretty horrible.. especially when Reese cries and wails and screams at how "InvisibleDeath" (her avatar on MetaWorld, but Reese doesn't know Claudia is InvisibleDeath. He doesn't even know she plays MetaWorld) is a horrible, gruesome person. Revenge was what she wanted in the first place, right? And she got it.. right? So is Claudia doing the right thing - is revenge really the answer to ending this war? Read this AMAZING book to find out! Claudia, as the "author" of this book, has compiled an astonishing amount of interviews from allies, enemies, and combatants alike. The result is an "oral" history told from many, many points of view complete with text messages, photographs, gaming chat logs, and emails. Like any historian, Claudia decides to use resources for historical comparisons (in this case that resource is Wikipedia). She compares the events of the war with events that happened in actual wars (ex. World War II) Also, she compares the people involved with people from actual wars (Xander is Hitler!) There are a lot of hilarious things but you will see realistic elements, like how Claudia interacts with her brother and schoolmates, how there is cyberbullying and how there are social media (like MetaWorld for Minecraft and ClickChat which is MySpace, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, etc.) Geoff Rodkey (the "real" author) uses a light, funny tone that navigates the ups and downs of siblings and middle school life. This book will probably attract readers who liked "Charlie Joe Jackson", "Origami Yoda", and "Jake & Lily." I heard this will be a series - I'm actually extremely excited and glad to hear this will not end the first book.. The Tapper Twins have material that could keep an author busy for a while and this book has a lot of potential! So I can't wait for the Tapper Twins Tear Up New York (the next book!) I rate this five stars, hands down, and I hope many readers will enjoy this book as much as I did!
This Is Not My Hat
By Jon Klassen
While this may be a younger studen't book, it is LAUGH OUT LOUD funny! My five year old brother checked it out from the library and I read it to him so long that it counted for all of his reading. It didn't get boring! If anything, it got funnier! There is an incredibly tiny fish that steals a larger fish's hat-and is assured that the big fish doesn't even know! After all, the hat was too small for the big fish...or so the tiny fish says! This is a great book for kids entering school or in 1st grade! --BKS reviews

OMG!!!!! This book is so good! When my friend suggested it to me I thought that "Oh this book is about vampires and there will be friendship and blah blah blah" but wen I read the first chapter I was glued to the book. My school library doesn't have Take Two and I really want to read it! My friend has it and I'm waiting for her to finish it so I can read it. My fav character is either Ivy or Sophia. Whats yours??

This book is funny with lots of action. It's great for kids who like dogman and captain underpants. It is more for younger kids. I think that you should read it! Very funny! Enjoy reading! ~AlphaWolf13
