AH113

Extraordinary by Miriam Spitzer Franklin is about how and why Pansy wants to become extraordinary for her friend Anna. Pansy and Anna are best friends and try to do everything together but Pansy backs out on everything. Like when Pansy promised Anna she would take ice skating lessons but quits after one lesson. Or when she promised she would cut her hair for locks of love but only Anna walked out with her hair cut. But after Pansy backed out of going to overnight camp with Anna, Anna and Pansy have a fight. while at camp Anna gets meningitis and can no longer talk. When Pansy finds out Anna is about to have brain surgery she promises Anna she will be a good friend from now on. Pansy thinks that Anna will be back to her normal self, but her mom tells her that not how it goes. But Pansy still believes. Will Anna be back to her normal self. I would recommend this book to people who like suspense and friendship. It shows how even tho friends can change on the outside if you are true friends you'll be the same to your friends.I like this book because it is sincere and loving.

Kinda Like Brothers

Kinda Like Brothers

By Coe Booth

Jarrett’s mom takes in foster babies. He is used to getting less attention than the foster babies and life is pretty predictable. Until Kevon comes. Kevon is a foster child a little older than Jarrett who gets taken in to be fostered. Jarrett and Kevon immediately dislike each other. But Jarrett doesn’t trust Kevon—he knows something is off. A nice, light read that touches on hate, this is a story about two kids who could just as well be brothers. My thoughts: This book was enjoyable. I had some problems with it, but overall I found it to be an easy and fast read. Ok, these kids HATE each other. I could not STAND it. Jarrett does this, so Kevon does that and Jarrett gets him back and it’s not my fault it’s his fault. AAAAAAAHHHHHHH. “Why does he have to share a room with me?” Me: “Why are you so selfish? He came from bad circumstances and ALL HE DOES IS SHARE A ROOM WITH YOU. Oh. My. Gosh” *end rant* Other than the aforementioned craziness, I did actually think this book was great. It was a nice story, and I loved how real it was. You connected with the characters (even if two of them could be jerks) and I really liked Kevon’s sister, Treasure. she is kinda sorta really cute. Even though I had problems with the characters, I understand that the book was ABOUT trying to be friends and kinda being like brothers. The back is why I picked this up at BEA: “Kinda Like Friends. Kinda Like Enemies. Kinda Like Brothers.” I just love that. So, this book did well emphasizing how people can be ignorant and could care less about someone else, and it shows you that if you just dislike someone just because, it will lead you nowhere. The book conveyed its message.

Noggin

Noggin

By John Corey Whaley

Travis Coates is alive. He closed his eyes, and when he opened them, five years had passed. His friends are five years older, and he is still the same age. His girlfriend is engaged to someone else. Travis Coates volunteered to undergo Cryogenic Reanimation after being told he was dying from leukemia. His head was chopped off, put in a freezer, and then put onto someone else’s body. Now Travis’s world has turned upside-down. Why did everything change? How can he go back to his old life—the happy life where he HAD a girlfriend? In a thought-provoking, unique story, Travis is trying to figure everything out; and reclaim the old life he once had. What I thought about it: Noggin was wonderful. It was such a quirky, fun read. This book was so weird—but incredible at the same time. This book has such an absurd concept—but you fall in love with it, and it is amazing how the author came up with this. You almost feel bad for Travis—the poor guy almost died, had to be in a freezer for 5 years, got a new body, and now his best friends are in college and his girlfriend is engaged. :O This book was very much a love story as well as a sci-fi book—it is largely about him trying to get his old girlfriend back. Poor Travis. Chasing after his past, to make it like it was before. I really loved the love (see what I did there? :-) in this book. It added a great touch to to the book. If you are a fan of YA, and/or sci-fi, DEFINITELY pick this book up. You WILL love it. I will definitely read John’s other books! Overall: 9.5 Stars
