Crazy

Crazy

By Han Nolan

Jason hears little voices in his head. But he doesn't think he's going crazy because he knows the voices aren't real. They're just like a little tv show cast in his head, commenting on his life. But Jason's dad really IS crazy, and Jason has had a rough time taking care of him by himself after his mother died. At a school support group, he finally finds the courage to open up about everything tumbling around in his life, and it's very beneficial for him. I encourage readers who are going through hard times to try this book, as it's very easy to relate to his struggles, and a good way to find solutions to them!

Operation Redwood

Operation Redwood

By S. Terrell French

Amazing story, great information about Redwood forests packed into a fun adventure story about a few brave 11-year-olds. They shine a positive light on homeschooling families. definitely recommend; it's a long book so maybe a 5th-6th grade reading level or a parent can read aloud to 6+ year old. Great story.

Of Giants and Ice (The Ever Afters)

Of Giants and Ice (The Ever Afters)

By Shelby Bach

I just read this book for the second time and it was even sweeter than the first time (mostly because I actually understood everything for the first time in forever). I don't usually read books twice but this book was special because it was one of my absolute top favorite book series PLUS this summer I'm planning on re-reading my favorite book series. AHEM and I also got the fourth book of this series BUT I read one page and I had forgotten who and what all the characters were so I'm just re-starting from the beginning. I don't regret my decision one bit, because the second I opened this book, Rory's life became as real as my own. She's such a relatable character who is very unlike some of the perfect characters in stories these days. You can actually connect with her and feel her embarrassment, anger, happiness, and you just have to laugh out loud when she snaps a witty comment back at Chase. I WOULD make a critique about how she believed in magic so seemingly quickly, but, hey, I guess being chased by a fire-breathing dragon, escaping giants with bug-spray, and almost dying by falling from a magic beanstalk will do that to ya. I will never understand why this isn't a New York Times bestseller, and I recommend this to ANYONE who loves adventure, fantasy, and all those other genres and such. Better end this review now before it turns into one of those monster reviews so long that nobody actually reads anything but the first sentence. Anyways, this book was amazing in every way and you should probably read it if you want a cool story in your life.

Return of the Homework Machine

Return of the Homework Machine

By Dan Gutman

When it comes to homework, it's boring for kids. But when a 5th grader Brenton created a machine to create homework with all the correct answers in your handwriting, I was inspired to read the Homework machine. I loved it. From the start to the end, I was attentive to all details, like when Brenton and Judy went out. I highly recommend the sequel, which has blown my mind. At the end of the school year in the 1st book, they threw away the machine in the Grand Canyon. But Brenton is suspicious when a blinking red light was in the computer drive and kept on blinking, even if it was plugged off. So they have to destroy it before it can be of harm.

Something Like Fate

Something Like Fate

By Susane Colasanti

Fate- The development of events beyond a person's control, regarded as determined by a supernatural power. This book is called Something like fate by Susane Colasanti. The title really goes with the setting and everything in the book. If you’re someone that likes and or is fascinated by horoscopes and or zodiac signs I would definitely recommend this book to you. This book does have a lot of mature words and scenes a some points. The main characters in this book are Lani, Jason, Erin, and Blake. The main settings are the high school and Lani’s house. I am estimating that the time time period would be in 2010 based on when the book was published. The protagonists would definitely be Lani and Jason and the antagonist would be Erin. Two MAJOR conflicts would be when Jason breaks up with Erin over mail and when Jason agrees that Lani and Jason won’t talk to each other ever again. A turning point would be when Lani and Erin meet each other and have a fight but them make up and Erin agrees to let Lani and Jason be together. In the beginning of the book Lani is in eleventh grade but for the most part she is in twelfth. In the beginning of the book Erin and Jason are dating. Over the summer when Erin goes to summer camp Lani starts to fall in love with Jason. Blake is also one of Lani's friends. Blake is gay and no one knows except for Lani. But that changes when Lani accidentally blurbs it out to Jason. Blake is verbally abused by his dad. Blake doesn't want his dad to know or else he would be very mad. There is a rumor around school that Blake is gay, when his dad finds out his dad kicks him out of the house. Blake never thought that his dad could get that mad. Blake sleeps over Lani's house for one day but when Lani's mom calls child protection services Blake has to go live with his uncle. It's only 45 minutes away but Blake can still go to the same school. Later on Jason sends Erin a letter to her summer camp saying that he was breaking up with her. While Erin is gone Lani and Jason have more time to get to know each other. Jason and Lani go on a date on the fourth of July and have they’re first kiss. At the end of the summer when Erin comes back she is devastated when she finally finds out that Lani “stole” her boyfriend. Erin is instantly raging that they’re together. Lani makes a promise to Erin that she won’t see or talk to Jason at ALL! Mostly because Lani thinks that Erin doesn’t need to be hurt anymore. Erin is still mad at Lani later in the book. Jason walks up to Lani and everybody is watching them, Jason tells Lani that he can’t wait anymore and he wants to be with her. Right then and there everything changes for her. But you’ll have to read this book for yourself to find out what happens next. This book is really romantic, heartfelt and intense. When I was reading it I would read it all the time. Every flip of a page made my heart beat faster in every second as I was reading with all of the excitement. I would also recommend this book to readers that like intense romantic books also fiction books. All I know is that I loved this book and that you should experience all of the exhilaration and excitement in this book. This is probably one of the best books I’ve read so far.
