The Someday Suitcase

The Someday Suitcase

By Corey Ann Haydu

Clover and Danny are about to experience some of the saddest yet happy times of their lives. In this inseparable pair of best friends, Clover is the list maker, while Danny adds the flare of fun. Clover loves science and is quiet, while Danny fills in the chat and loves art. Clover has a theory that Danny and her are symbiotic, which means they can’t function without one another. One day, Danny falls off his chair, which is not a normal thing for him to do. Soon Danny gets worse and worse, even though he claims to be okay. He is gone for weeks at the hospital, leaving Clover alone at school. The doctors still can’t find out what his illness is, but it is only getting worse. Clover starts taking notes as well, to figure out what is wrong. After a few hypotheses, she theorizes she makes Danny feel better. Whenever she is around him, he feels better. Together they find out Danny’s ancestors also suffered from this disease, and finds out they went to a special care facility to cure them. They plan to travel there alone so Danny can get better, but it might be too late. Will Danny make it and live? Or will Clover suffer from such a big blow to her life? To find out read The Someday Suitcase, which I give 5 stars. This was such a heartwarming book and I recommend it to anyone who loves a book filled with hope.

The Year of Billy Miller

The Year of Billy Miller

By Kevin Henkes

The skull

this book has three parts: Father, sister and mother. When billy enters 2nd grade he thinks he is not smart enough and a gril named Emma Sparks boasts about her self. But the story doesen't take place all at school there are scenes at home to. I Recommend this book because it is just a really nice book to read. At first I didn't want to read it because I was reading Rangers Apprentice but it turned out to be a good book so I suggest you stop reading this and go read The Year Of Billy Miller. Bye!

Sweeping Up the Heart

Sweeping Up the Heart

By Kevin Henkes

This book is one of my favorite books! Amelia Albright dreams about going to Florida for spring break like everyone else in her class, but her father--a cranky and stubborn English professor--has decided Florida is too much adventure. Now Amelia is stuck at home with him and her babysitter, the beloved Mrs. O'Brien. The week ahead promises to be boring, until Amelia meets Casey at her neighborhood art studio. Amelia has never been friends with a boy before, and the experience is both fraught and thrilling. When Casey claims to see the spirit of Amelia's mother (who died ten years before), the pair embarks on an altogether different journey in their attempt to find her.

My Dog Is Better Than Your Dog (Crimebiters! #1)

My Dog Is Better Than Your Dog (Crimebiters! #1)

By Tommy Greenwald

CuteBunnies

This was a interesting and funny book with some action. If you are a realist, you will not agree with Jimmy on the matter that Abby the dog is a vampire. But, no matter what, Abby is loveable. Even though there are a lot of males in this book (the main character and villain are male), there is no gender gap.

The Adventures of Beekle: The Unimaginary Friend

The Adventures of Beekle: The Unimaginary Friend

By Dan Santat

The Adventures of Beekle is an amazing book. Beekle is an imaginary friend who is tired of waiting for a child to dream of him, so he goes on a daring adventure to the real world. He looks everywhere, but cannot find his friend. So Beekle sits in a tree and waits for his friend to come. After a long time, Beekle still hasn't found his friend. Beekle thinks about how far he’s come and how long he’s waited to no avail. Beekle starts feeling sad just as a little girl named Alice calls up to him from the ground. They become best friends. I love this book. First, I like how Beekle is imagining that his friend will be a boy, but in the end his friend is actually a girl. Second, I love the illustrations, and how the imaginary world is colorful, and so is the playground, but the rest of the real world is drab and gray. Third, I love the word choice and how the words are handwritten. I think that this book is brilliantly written. My four-year-old brother loves this book and wishes for it to be read to him every day. I think that it has something to do with the way this book is when read aloud. The words flow very well, and the illustrations are detailed and original. The Adventures of Beekle teaches us to never give up, even if something is hard. Beekle traveled long and far to the real world. After a long day of waiting, it seemed that he would never find his friend. However, Beekle persisted, and found a friend in the end.

The Trouble with Half a Moon

The Trouble with Half a Moon

By Danette Vigilante

In a almost perfect novel, Danette Vigilante writes about the true struggles of growing up in places such as the projects. She shows the violence that is commonly caused, the problems that different people could be having, and mental and physical disabilities. At the same time, this book shows how others can have the back of others, as the main character Dellie, constantly supports a child she is looking after in the book, despite some of the limitations held against her. If that in itself wasn't enough, This book also showcases both the good and bad sides of young love. Dellie herself has a crush on another character, who has a good reputation. Meanwhile, her best friend is with a dangerous character, who relies on edgy things, such as smoking. All in all, this book has many great features, with the only downside of the book being its page length. I would recommend this book to 2nd Grade to 8th Grade, as the book has many mature topics, but is relevant for many elementary and middle students. I enjoyed reading this book, and am confident that many others will too.
