Miss Smithers

Miss Smithers

By Susan Juby

Alice McLeod is a social outcast. She dresses like everyday is Halloween, has only one friend, and is dating a boy named Goose. Despite these facts, Alice decides to enter a beauty contest in her town called "Miss Smithers." She's just in it for the $400 clothing allowance, but it seems like a lot of the other girls are too! Maybe Alice will actually have a chance.... Over the course of the contest, Alice meets mean girls, girls who want to beat her up, and girls who are bad influences (but popular!). Alice also joins a church group, enrolls in karate, and publishes her own 'zine. But will everything come crashing down on Alice?

The Ransom of Red Chief: Comic-strip (Oxford Bookworms Starters)

By O. Henry

I liked this book because it is about American Indians and the settlers. In the book a kid was mad at his mom and his dad. People stole the kid but he did not want to go home.

The Mysterious Tadpole

The Mysterious Tadpole

By Steven Kellogg

lgh

Steven Kellogg's book The Mysterious Tadpole is full of surprises. When Louis gets a tadpole from his uncle as a birthday present, I'm sure no one imagined what would happen over the next year! Louis is a good friend and caretaker of his "tadpole," who he names Alphonse. Alphonse grows up and they have exciting adventures ~ including getting kicked out of the school's pool and finding a sunken treasure. In addition to the story the pictures in this book were excellent!

Who Can You Trust? (ROCKETT'S WORLD)

Who Can You Trust? (ROCKETT'S WORLD)

By Lauren Day

Rockett's World series are books about a girl who moves to a new town and gets made fun of-like, a lot! I personally think that this book is good and bad. It's good because it teaches you about good friends, the bad thing though is that in "Who Can You Trust", she gets teased by the most popular girl, Nicole and her gang: The Ones. Another group is:The CSGs. She doesn't quite know her place in the story and doesn't do a good job on the names. Like for example: Miko. Now, whoever thought of a name like "Miko"? If you want to read this book, then I recommend it for young readers. The words in this book are quite easy for 2-12 graders.

Homeroom Diaries

Homeroom Diaries

By James Patterson, Lisa Papademetriou

Homeroom Diaries is all about a teenager's life! The main character, Cuckoo, is going through a lot of troubles, she lost the two most important person in her life, but she didn't let that break her down, with her best friends by her side, she decides to ignore all the hate and start over and stay happy. This story might seem simple but I think it's very realistic and especially suitable for teenagers. I think one of the strengths of this book is the drawings, it keeps the story interesting and giving the readers a better image of the characters and scenes. The author added many details to describe the emotions of Cuckoo and her friends. I also really love that the story is told in a diary form. I recommend Homeroom Diaries to teenager readers. The most important message from this book is...Always remember to stay positive!!!
