Kids Books - Fiction
From the Mixed-up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler
By E.L. Konigsburg
E. L. Konigsburg is one of my favorite authors. This story was about one girl named Claudia, and one boy named Jamie. They decide to run away from their house because they think their parents were too bossy to them. They decide to run away to the Metropolitan Museum, which was kind of weird in my personal way. It was amazing how they didn't get noticed in the beginning, but at the end, they get to a newspaper and got caught from their parent's notice to to the FBI. I love this book. Out of 100, I would give this book 100.
A Snicker of Magic
By Natalie Lloyd
This book is definitely a "Snicker of Magic." The main character Felicity Pickle, who has a very special talent, goes on a spindiddly adventure with her mother, who has a wandering heart, her sister, weird but wonderful, her dog biscuit, who is a great companion, and their trusty car, the Pickled Jalapeño. They drive off to a once magical town where Felicity finally feels at home, although her mother is already planning on leaving. With the help of her newfound friend Jonah, Felicity learns to face her fears and even breaks a curse on the way. My favorite quote from the book was, "I bet there's a snicker of magic on every street, in every old building, every broken heart, every word of a story. Maybe it's hidden away and you need to look harder for it. or maybe the magic is right there right in front of you, and all you have to do is believe." I really liked the quote because it says that magic is all around us and sometimes all we really have to do is believe in it.
The Story of a Seagull and the Cat Who Taught Her to Fly
By Luis Sepulveda
There's a seagull! It just flew through Zorba's window. That's strange. Why is it covered in oil??????????? The seagull, whose name is Kengah, lays an egg. Then she dies. But before that, she tells Zorba, who is a cat, to look after the egg, and when the chick hatches, to teach it to fly. And Zorba agrees. Soon, he has told his cat friends, Einstein, Colonel, and Secretario. But no matter how many times Einstein consults the encyclopedia, the cats cannot figure out how to teach Lucky to fly. And she is losing hope! How will they do it? The book was easy to read and not very long. I also liked the illustrations except for the ones on pages 33 and 113, which were VERY weird. And it was very interesting to read and good.

House Arrest
By K.A. Holt
This book was touching. I loved every bit of it. It is about a 12 year old boy named Timothy who is under house arrest. From his point of view, we learn that what we are reading is his journal, given to him by the judge to write in. As we read Timothy's journal, we learn the hardships his family is going through, such as his brother, Levi, having a messed up trachea (a large membranous tube reinforced by rings of cartilage, extending from the larynx to the bronchial tubes and conveying air to and from the lungs; the windpipe). Through awful nurses, divorce problems, and controlling himself, we join Timothy on the wild ride of trying to help Levi while under house arrest. This book had parts where I started to tear up, and yet there were still parts that made me smile. I highly recommend House Arrest.

By Mary Pope Osborne
Have you ever wanted to travel through a Magic treehouse through books sent from Camelot? If so then you want to come with Jack and Annie on a nuts adventure! Doing all these crazy adventures that I would never think about doing especially in this book when they have to do tasks for Merlin the Wizard of Camalot. I would recommend this book ages 9-12 because this book is full of the craziest adventure in the series as my favorite part how they have to face a giant SERPENTINE. Can Jack and Annie get the sword to Merlin before it's too late? Read Magic Treehouse Summer of the Sea Serpent to find out.
