Hook's Revenge, Book 1 Hook's Revenge

Hook's Revenge, Book 1 Hook's Revenge

By Heidi Schulz

Captain Hook is dead, killed by the malicious crocodile. His daughter, Jocelyn, is faced with the heavy burden of avenging her father. But first she must endure the hardships of Miss Eliza Crumb-Biddlecomb's Finishing School For Young Ladies, pirate battles, annoying flying boys, pirate-eating cannibals, and her own fear. I really liked this book, as Jocelyn is a well-written character, and, unlike SOME books I've read, she's not perfect. She has flaws, which makes her easy to relate to, and easy to sympathize with. The story-telling style of this book was...nice. The narrator didn't seem to like narrating the story. You could write a whole series chronicling Jocelyn's mishaps. I can't wait to see what trouble-I mean, adventures-Jocelyn gets herself into next. I suggest to anyone who likes a good 'ol pirate story with a twist.

Serendipity and Me

Serendipity and Me

By Judith L. Roth

Serendipity and Me is a sweet, heartfelt book about a girl named Sara whose mother died driving in a thick Tule fog. Sara has wanted a kitten since she can remember, but cats have always been a 'no' in her household. When her mother died, Sara's father retreated into a state of deep sadness, bringing Sara with him, and every time she tries to talk about their family, he breaks down and goes to his room. To top it all off, Sara is set to star in a school production of Peter Pan as Wendy, with Garrett as Peter Pan, but a week before the play, she comes down with a bad virus. A cold, gloomy night, a miracle of a kitten bolts into their door, leaving Dad speechless and Sara finally with something to hold on to. The only thing is, can Sara convince her dad to let the kitten stay? I would recommend this book to anyone who loves cats and just wants something soft to hold onto.

Bloomability

Bloomability

By Sharon Creech

First of all, I would like to thank my friend Avery for recommending this book to me because it was really good. I think this book really fitted me because this is full of surprises that not everybody expects. In this novel, main character Dinnie Doone, is always moving to other states because her father always has job "opportunities". It seemed as though her father was running away from her mother's side, because he disliked them. Being a contryboy (The father) and the mother as a city girl, their families cannot really agree with each other. When she is whisked away to an international school in Switzerland, Dinnie Doone discovers all the "bloomabilities" that life has to offer. From Newbery Award-winning author Sharon Creech is a story about everyday joys. I rate this book 5/5 because I positively think that it really fits me.

The House in the Night

The House in the Night

By Susan Marie Swanson

The book had great illustrations with the contrast of black and white and yellow accents. I like how it took you all the way in and then back out to the world.

Ice Cream Summer

Ice Cream Summer

By Peter Sis

This is a book about ice cream. Every picture is made up of ice cream. The pictures are cool. I didn't like the story because it was boring. This book is for kids age 1-4, I'd say. It did not make me hungry for ice cream.
