Princess Mia (The Princess Diaries, Vol. 9)
By Meg Cabot
Awesome book! All teenagers can totally relate to this sometime in their life. The plot is super intriguing: after a horrible breakup with her boyfriend Michael, Princess Mia is so devastated that she refuses to go to school at all, and instead just lies in bed crying over her sad personal life and eating. At the same time, though, she must speak for a very prestigious, important feminism-supporting gala, and somehow stumbles upon an ancestor's diary, helping her achieve a very big thing: turning Genovia, her country, from a monarchy to a constitutional monarchy. I would definitely recommend this for ages 12+!!!
Dream on, Amber
By Emma Shevah
Amber is a half-Japanese and half-Italian girl with a long name, Ambra Alessandra Leola Kimiko Miyamoto. The hardest thing for Amber is that her dad is missing. He left when she was young and wasn't coming back. Not for her first day of middle school or her little sister Bella's birthday. So Amber decides to think of a way for herself and her sister to make it on their own.
Unidentified Suburban Object
By Mike Jung
In this book Chloe Cho is tired of being grouped in with other Asians, people not knowing the difference between Japaneses, Chinese, and Korean. And she is sick of being called another "Abigal Yang", just because she plays the violin well. And she wants to know more about her Korean background. But anytime she asks any questions her parents just change the subject. Only her best friend Shelley wants to help get answers. So Chloe is thrilled when she finds out her new teacher is Korean as well, and she is assigned a project about family history. But what Chloe finds out will change her life forever. Parts of this book were predictable. Other parts were just cheesy. The reason I rated it higher than a 1 star was because it did have good lessons on racism. Overall, I rate this book 2 out of 5 stars.
