Writing Smarts: A Girl's Guide to Journaling, Poetry, Storytelling, and School Papers
By Kerry Madden
This book is a very book activity book and it teaches you stuff . But in a fun way. You can learn all about making a story all the way from the first draft to the final product . And one of my favorite parts ....teaching you to make a haiku . Me and my dad love to make haikus together so I think that was a great part of the book.😁 I recommend this book to all ages and I rate this book 4/5 stars . - Pizzagirl7 💋
Pictures of Hollis Woods (Newbery Honor Book)
By Patricia Reilly Giff
Pictures Of Hollis Woods: written by Patricia Reilly Giff My opinion on this book would be an okay book it wasn't the worst but it wasn't the best. I'm gonna say that multiple people could relate to this, mostly children and young adults can relate. The book is about a little girl named Hollis Woods, she was a little bit on the different side of things, I would say she's more creative. Hollis has been to so many foster homes she can't even remember them all, she had one family that took her in and treated her right they were the best. But her habit got in the way; she ran away she was to blind to see she had a great home, this all means she needs to be picked up by social services. Hollis called the woman mustard lady, the one who brought her to her new home with Josie the former artist with a cat named Henry. Hollis just wanted to go back to her old ways and up and leave or at least try to run away, as much as she didn't want to admit it she loved it there. Through out the book Hollis misses Steven her old foster brother he was the best to her and she couldn't see that behind all the stubbornness. Hollis is kind of a quiet girl but she speaks through her drawings, the drawings and everything is the way that her and Josie get along seeing as Josie was an artist. Josie is very creative as well as Hollis so they got along fine, Josie is more of a go with the flow and nicer laid back foster parent. Hollis is very unique because how many kids these days bringing around a sketch pad all day drawing every little detail that stands out to her. The book is a good one and it's not like your regular basic relation between the author and the reader it's more of a inside and special one because kids that don't have homes or even adopted kids could feel this way so I think it's great. I recommend this book to 6th grade and up, for a person that can relate but also people that don't it's a kinda slow at first but it gets better.

Breakaway: Beyond the Goal
By Alex Morgan
I am a really big fan of Alex Morgan, which is why I decided to read this book.......and I loved it so much! It starts out when Alex was playing AYSO soccer when she was five, but when she was eight she decided that soccer was her passion and her big time goal was to play professional soccer. Alex eventually started playing club soccer, then high school, then college. When she was in high school she got recruited for her college team, and after that in college she got invited to a training camp with the national team! Alex played in the world cup for 2012, but sadly the US Women's Team lost in the finals, but Alex was determined to reach her goal of winning the world cup and also getting an olympic gold medal. She achieved both of these goals in the years after, and she is such an inspiration to me (I was riveted to my TV when I was watching the 2019 world cup and was so excited when the US team won!) but Alex had to work really hard for these goals, it wasn't like they were just handed to her. She had to battle through injuries, other commitments, traveling, and very hectic schedules! I would definitely recommend this to any middle schooler who loves soccer, or not! My reason being that the book isn't all about soccer, it is about working hard to reach your goals. This was a very inspiring book to me, just like Alex Morgan, and I really liked it a lot. I especially liked how I connected to it because I love to play soccer also (I play under the number 13 too, just like Alex Morgan) but you don't have to love soccer to read this book because that is not what it is all about, it also has very good messages and lessons that will stay with you long after you put the book down. I hope you will give this very inspiring book a try, even if it might not look interesting at first.

Regarding the Sink: Where, Oh Where, Did Waters Go?
By Kate Klise
Where, oh where did Flo go? Sam N.'s class is back at it again at Geyser Creek Middle School, trying everything they can do to fundraise after their school's sink breaks (and the sink STINKS, too!). They're hoping to use the help of eccentric designer and friend Florence Waters after she helped them on their fountain. But Flo is nowhere to be found! Principal Wally Russ is also short of cash after he sunk all of the school's money for the sink into Rainy-Day Rainwear stocks, which are PLUMMETING after a new technology of irrigation is introduced and endorsed by the newest senator Sue Ergass! But something suspicious is going on, and it's up to Sam N.'s class to save Flo. I encourage anyone to read this comical and super fun book! In the format of different letters sent, newspapers, and illustrations, this book will keep you turning pages! Also, I loved how every single name is a clever play on words... it's so fun to figure them all out! I recommend this book for middle grades, and I would rate it a 4/5 stars!
