Not If I Save You First

Not If I Save You First

By Ally Carter

This book is interesting. It is very suspenseful and funny. But it is a little uncomfortably romantic. I would warn that from the summary the book gives, you don't know that it is pretty much a romance book. Other than that, I really liked this book. Maddie is not a normal girl. Her father is the Secret Service for the POTUS. And Maddie is friends with the POTUS's son, Logan. But after a life changing event, Maddie and her father must leave Washington D.C. and move to Alaska. That means leaving Logan. In Alaska, Maddie is a new person. She's tough, strong, and confident. Maddie, over the years, has tried to keep in contact with Logan but he has never written back. Maddie finally forgets about Logan. But one day, Logan shows up in Alaska. Maddie is ready to hate him, but inwardly she still misses him. After he gets kidnapped in Alaska, Maddie must make the decision to save him and reconcile. This book is pretty good. I think it would have been better if there weren't romantic parts but that is just my opinion. I suggest it if you like girl-power, romance, adventure and friendship. Happy reading!

Faceless

Faceless

By Alyssa Sheinmel

I would 10/10 recommend this book for everyone! Faceless by Alyssa Sheinmel is about a girl named, Maisie who got her face burnt off on a morning jog. It started getting a little windy and dark outside because a storm was approaching. She figured she could run really fast and make it home, but that wasn't the turn out. A lightning pole caught on fire and made different parts of Maisie catch on fire. She ends up in the hospital for a few months. Will she make it? If she makes it what will people think about her, will they judge her? Will she people to talk or hear? If you want the answers to these questions, read the amazing book, Faceless by Alyssa Sheinmel! **Disclaimer** This book is in the library, but you must have permission to get it because, it is behind Ms. Custers desk!

Wink

Wink

By Rob Harrell

This book starts off strangely: a giant radioactive cancer-treating thing is aimed at Ross Maloy. It is then found out through flashbacks that he has a rare type of life-threatening cancer known as a mucoepidermoid carcinoma of the lacrimal gland, which is quite hard to spell. When school starts, however, Ross finds that, alas, everyone is painfully aware of his eye cancer, and he has to wear a hat too. A cowboy one. On Halloween, Ross finds that memes have been made. He is now known as "Cancer Cowboy". Yet to come is even worse news: Ross's best friend since 1st grade, Abby, is moving to Missouri and Ross's friend Issac is nowhere to be found. How shall Ross cope with this strange turn of events? Wink was really a book with lots of interesting characters, for example, Jimmy, the bully who is just misunderstood, and who becomes sort of Ross's friend at the end. Furthermore, it was really interesting to see how Ross coped with the challenges brought on by cancer and everything else. However, I did not like the author's use of incomplete sentences that are similar to, "Someone does something, ... Then sits down." But overall, it was a really interesting story about school and had nice drawings of Batpig and elephants and evil nachos and just a great book for people who like funny realistic fiction.

The Mostly True Adventures of Homer P. Figg (Newbery Honor Book)

The Mostly True Adventures of Homer P. Figg (Newbery Honor Book)

By Rodman Philbrick

I liked how I could picture the characters in my head. The author was able to give great details to the reader and it helped my imagination. The story was action-packed and very enjoyable. I listened to the audiobook while following the story in my paperback book. This made the book more exciting because the audiobook used different voices.

Fairest

Fairest

By Marissa Meyer

I recently wrote a book review for the third book in the Lunar Chronicles, "Cress", and in that review I said that all the books in the Lunar Chronicles series were just as good, if not better, than the previous ones. I had spoke too soon, that statement does not apply to "Fairest." Just to clarify, "Fairest" is not part of the main Lunar Chronicles series, it is an add-on book/short story and it is read after "Cress" but before "Winter" so technically it is book 3.5. The main series is Cinder, Scarlet, Cress, and Winter, but Fairest is a book on the main villain, Lunar Queen Levana, and should be read as book 3.5. Now back to me saying that "Fairest" wasn't as good as the previous books, I would even say it is my least favorite book from this series. Now I know that since this is a book on a villain, I should expect it to be kind of dark and evil and I did, but not as much as it was. (Dun dun dun!) This book was still a wonderful read, and I think maybe I wasn't used to reading books about the evil people in the world, or in this case, the moon. Some people say that they don't want to read this book before the finale of the series, "Winter", because they are worried that they will feel bad for Levana. Let me tell you, even after reading this book, I still think that Levana is super evil and cruel. I guess that after reading her backstory in this book, I could say that some of her "evilness" is due to her childhood, which was pretty horrible, but Levana made some pretty bad decisions and you can't blame all of them on her upbringing. I haven't read "Winter", the last book in the series yet, but I'm pretty sure it is necessary to read Levana's backstory before "Winter" because Levana has a big part to play in the last book. "Fairest" was alright, but it put a big spot light on beauty, and that is because all Lunars have a special power called glamour, which is the ability to manipulate brain waves and make people see you different than you are. Levana uses her glamour all the time to make herself prettier than she is, because of what her sister did to her when they were younger. I didn't think it was possible, but Levana's sister is even more evil than Levana grew up to be. Levana also uses her glamour to make her childhood crush fall in love with her, forcing their marriage and dooming herself to a lifetime of forced and fake love. Being the reader of this book was kind of hard, because I could see all sorts of things that Levana didn't, due to her being figuratively blinded by using her glamour to force power and love on other people and herself. Overall, I would say that this is a pretty dark book since it is based on a villain, but I would still recommend it to teens who like the lunar chronicles, because it is necessary to read if you want to understand the last book of the Lunar Chronicles series. I hope this review was helpful!
