The Copper Gauntlet (Magisterium, Book 2)

The Copper Gauntlet (Magisterium, Book 2)

By Holly Black, Cassandra Clare

The Copper Gauntlet is the second book in the series of "The Iron Trial". First of all, I strongly suggest that if you have not read the first one to do so before reading The Copper Gauntlet. Otherwise several key factors will not make sense. In the Copper Gauntlet Cole has found out some plans of his father's-that don't look good for Cole. So he decides to run away until school starts. Then he will return to the Magisterium. But then Cole finds out an ancient weapon has been stolen-and his father is the prime suspect. Cole, Aaron, Tamara and Jasper must set out to prove his father innocent. I liked in this book that Cole and his "enemy" (Jasper) have to work together. There is a lot of tension in the book, and moments that you wonder what will happen. I like that even though there is a "real" enemy, there is also a smaller antagonist. I also liked that there were more settings beyond the school or Cole's house. In this book, the crew actually went out and had an adventure where lives were at stake. Something I didn't like in this book was that there did seem to be copied features that are expected. For instance, the main trio-Cole, Aaron and Tamara-seem to to replicate traits of the main characters of Harry Potter-Harry, Ron, and Hermoine. I would recommend this book to magic-lovers and all fantasy fans. Also, any people who like books such as Harry Potter. I rate this book 4 out of 5 stars.

The Iron Trial (Book One of Magisterium)

The Iron Trial (Book One of Magisterium)

By Holly Black, Cassandra Clare

This book centers around a twelve year old kid named Call Hunt, who has been accepted into a school for magic called the Magisterium, though his father doesn't want him to attend. While at the school, Call makes new friends, new foes, and discovers a shocking secret about himself that turns his whole world upside down. This book was fast paced, original, and had plenty of funny moments too. It's got friendship, love and lots of mystery. Unlike most fantasy books, this one doesn't have the usually clear-cut lines between good and evil; on the contrary, it ends with a shocking plot twister that is sure to keep you on your toes and dying to read the next book. I would reccomend this to people that love fantasy, friendship, and fast paced adventure.

Michael Vey 2: Rise of the Elgen

Michael Vey 2: Rise of the Elgen

By Richard Paul Evans

Michael Vey: Rise of the Elgen is the 2nd book in the Michael Vey series. It stars Michael Vey, a boy who is one of 17 children who have electrical-based powers. They are being researched by a company called The Elgen. Some of the “electric children” are on Vey’s side, but some support The Elgen. Since the Elgen kidnapped Michael’s mom, Michael goes to one of their bases to rescue her. This book has lots of action and is a page-turner. This series is also very similar to other series, namely the Percy Jackson series, so if you enjoyed those books, you’ll enjoy this book too. I recommend this book to kids in 5th to 8th grade. This book gets a 4 out of 5 from me.

Treasure Hunters: Secret of the Forbidden City

Treasure Hunters: Secret of the Forbidden City

By James Patterson, Chris Grabenstein

CuteBunnke

This third novel in the unique Treasure Hunters series is even better than the first two. They travel to two locations: Germany and China. So it should really be called "Treasure Hunters: Across Europe and Asia". While on the journey, you learn about the tomb of Qin Shi Huangdi, Pablo Picasso, The Forbidden City, The Nazis, and about the past of the two eldest Kidd children: Tom and Storm.

The Fowl Twins

The Fowl Twins

By Eoin Colfer

Wow. Just wow. I loved this book so much! I'm on the edge of my seat just waiting for the next book to come out! The Fowl Twins are almost as good as Artemis Fowl. The twins are under Nanny's control, but the twins find trouble quickly. The go on an incredible journey, seeing things they never saw before. The even get temporary killed. But aside from their major differences, they discover that they need to work together to get back home, with just a little help, of course.....

Eddie Red Undercover: Mystery on Museum Mile

Eddie Red Undercover: Mystery on Museum Mile

By Marcia Wells

Edmund Lonnrot is a normal 11 year old kid. Well, except for his photographic memory and his amazing drawing abilities. One day his father tells him that he was losing hours at work, making them unable to afford Edmund's school. That all changes when the police come to Edmund with unusual request. Work for them and they would pay for Edmund's school next year. You see the police have been unable to solve a crime because the suspects keep changing the way they look. Eddie's job? Go to the art museum and draw anyone suspicious. If they're able to catch the thieves the NYPD will pay for Eddie's education next year. I liked this book because it was so fast paced. I didn't like the way the adults acted in this book and the twists were kind of predictable. But, I think fans of mysteries and Theodore Boone will absolutely love Eddie Red: Mystery on Museum Mile!
