It's a perfect world, where everything looks right. But ugly truths lie beneath…

Imagine a world without poverty, war or pain. A world where everything is comfortable and familiar - a world where everything is the same. No colour, no music. In such a world, Jonas is selected to be the next Receiver of Memory and is apprenticed to the Giver, an old man who stores memories from the Community’s past. As Jonas learns about violence and sadness, as well as beauty and joy, he discover the sinister truth behind his safe existence.

Simply and beautifully written, The Giver is a thought-provoking look at utopian society. It was awarded the Newbery Medal in 1994.

I didn't like this book. It looked into human nature and if you stripped that all away. I thought it was creepy and the ending was awful!

Good book, but I wouldn't recommend it to people who are seeking thriller and adventure.

Awesome Book!

i dont think it was the best book. it was very deitaled, but it was not that inturesting. thank you.

It is a book that leaves you questioning. The end is very weird they should have a giver book 2.

i am just about to read it on my nook buying it right now. so nervous but exsided

It is soooo good. imagine not being able to see color or hear music! that is how this guy lived his life. I would recommend others to read The Giver.

SO GOOD!!! Poor Gabe

I'm not finished with the book tet, but so far it's really good.

I love this book and all of the suspense and action in the book and especially how in the first seven chapters Lois Lowry used no descriptions about color and it's cool how the people live in a world with out color and they aren't even aloud to have their feelings.
