For fans of Pseudonymous Bosch, Coraline, and Septimus Heap comes the first book in the award-winning, New York Times bestselling Books of Elsewhere series.

This house is keeping secrets . . .

When eleven-year-old Olive and her parents move into the crumbling mansion on Linden Street and find it filled with mysterious paintings, Olive knows the place is creepy—but it isn’t until she encounters its three talking cats that she realizes there’s something darkly magical afoot. Then Olive finds a pair of antique spectacles in a dusty drawer and discovers the most peculiar thing yet: She can travel inside the house’s spooky paintings to a world that’s strangely quiet . . . and eerily sinister. But in entering Elsewhere, Olive has been ensnared in a mystery darker and more dangerous than she could have imagined, confronting a power that wants to be rid of her by any means necessary. With only the cats and an unusual boy she meets in Elsewhere on her side, it’s up to Olive to save the house from the shadows, before the lights go out for good.

This is an amazing book series, I have read the first two books and will read the others this summer. A must read. Olive is a really cool character.

This book is about a girl named Olive who pretty much lives in the shadows. Here parents moved with out here having any say. In her new house she realizes that by putting on a pare of special glasses she could go into the paintings. I recommend this book for children 6 and older.

Great book!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

read the book in three days, couln't put it down!!!

I love this book so much, I would probably read the book with a flashlight when I'm supposed to be sleeping. Olive knows that the house is strange. Especially with the spectacles letting her into McMartin's paintings.

I really love this book. Does anyone else love a book the way I love this book? I can't wait to read the second book!

I just finished it, but I want to read it again. Who doesn't want to read a book that they find every intriguing?

I absolutely love this book. It makes me want to crawl in bed at nighttime, take a flashlight and read secretly. In fact, I did it, but I got caught, and my mom took away my flashlight. Wow. =_=.

This is my FAVORITE book! When 11 year old Olive moves into a spooky old house on Linden Street, she knows the house is keeping secrets. There are spooky paintings, three talking cats; Horatio,Leopold, and Harvey. The cats help her find out secrets that will change her life! Horatio always says "Olive stay on guard, there is something that does not want you here and it will it's best to get rid of you." It's the kind of book you would want to read with a flashlight under your sheets SHHHH!!!!
