When thirteen-year-old Ronan Truelove’s seemingly ordinary mom snatches him from school, then sets off on a high speed car chase, Ronan is shocked. His quiet, nerdy dad has been kidnapped? And the kidnappers are after him, too?

His mom, he quickly learns, is anything but ordinary. In fact, she’s a member of an ancient order of knights, the Blood Guard, a sword-wielding secret society sworn to protect the Pure—thirty-six noble souls whose safety is crucial if the world as we know it is to survive.

Now all those after-school activities—gymnastics, judo, survival training—she made him take, make sense. For suddenly Ronan is swept up in a sometimes funny, sometimes scary, but always thrilling adventure—dashing from one danger to the next, using his wits to escape the Bend Sinister, a posse of evil doers with strange powers. Falling in with two unlikely companions, Greta, a scrappy, strong-willed girl he’s never much liked and Jack, a devil-may-care teenage pickpocket, Ronan is left with only his wits and his mom’s last words of advice: Trust no one.

That’s a lot for an ordinary kid to deal with. But then again, maybe Ronan’s not ordinary at all.

I think this is now one of my favorite books. I really liked how the author used very descriptive wording to make the book interesting. It was a mix of fantasy and sort of mystery. Surprisingly there was a little bit of humor along with the non-stop action. The book is about a boy named Evelyn Ronan Truelove (who goes by Ronan), who for all his life has been taking extra after-school classes for everything-self-defense to gymnastics. Those skills finally come in handy when one day after school, Ronan's mother Bree, picks him up and tells him she's a Blood Guard. The Blood Guard are people whos mission is to protect the 36 Pure souls on Earth. If all of the "pure" die the world will end. There are bad people called the Bend Sinister who are trying to kill the pure and now they are chasing Ronan. His mom tells him to take a train to Washington D.C. and meet her there. But when things go terribly wrong, Ronan is forced off the train with anther member of the Guard, Jack Dawkins, and an old classmate, Greta. I think the best character for me was Dawkins, because he is always calm and easy-going even if they are about to die. My favorite part of the book was by far the end, because some really shocking things happen that know one would have guessed. I think people of any age will enjoy this book like I did, so go out and BUY IT on March 4th!

The Blood Guard is about Evelyn Ronan Truelove (just call him Ronan), a thirteen-year-old boy who hates his name just about worse than anything. That is, until he’s spun into this fast-paced, exciting adventure novel in which Ronan finds much worse catastrophes than his name. Turns out, his mom is part of an ancient order of knights, the fire that destroyed his house wasn’t an accident, and his dad; a quiet, nerdy, guy who’s more interested in his work than really anything else; has secrets of his own. And what about Ronan’s feisty friend, Greta? What are her secrets? Join Ronan as he discovers new things about himself, his friends, and his family in the newest book by Carter Roy. All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed this book.

I really really enjoyed reading this book! It reminding me a little of Percy Jackson The Lightning Thief, which is one of my favorite books EVER. I liked how the author limited our knowledge of the Blood Guard and Ronan's Mother to exactly what he knew. I really liked how it wasn't dramatic irony, because it makes the book even more like a mystery. My favorite character in the book is Greta, because she deals with all of the news of the Blood Guard and being chased so well, even though she isn't really involved with any of it. I can't wait to read the next book in the series to find our what is going to happen to Ronan.

This book was actually really interesting. It's a very creative book with a interesting plot and very descriptive writing filled with cool details so you can imagine the scene in your head. It is also sort of humorous for example, the name being Evelyn Ronan Truelove. A lot of people may think it sounds like Percy Jackson, but I think its WAY different. Percy Jackson is about greek and roman gods while this is about a group of people called the Blood Guards who protect the people on Earth. It just happens that Ronan's mom is in that group and one day after school they leave on a wild chase being tailed by mysterious people. Ronan have been doing karate and self-defense since he was little so he can defend himself. His mom drops him off on a train with another Blood Guard and they are supposed to meet her in Washington DC but things go wrong on the train and they are forced to get off along with his old classmate and know it all Greta. To top it off, Ronan (or Evelyn)'s dad is missing and it probably has to do with the mysterious people chasing them. The plot has lots of things that will catch you by surprise and the book is suspenseful. I thinks everyone should read this book, because I liked it a lot.

OMG! This book looks really good. It sounds like a mix of my favorite books. Does anyone know when it comes out?

The Blood Guard is a story about Evelyn Ronan Truelove. (He is not a girl) Evelyn doesn't like to be called Evelyn, but by his middle name Ronan. Ronan is considered a loner because he has a LOT of extra curricular stuff after school and people make fun of his first name. After waking up to a fire, and being picked up by his mom and not going to his extra curriculars, Ronan knew this was a sign of a bad day. Ronan is dropped off at a train station while his mom has to "take care of some stuff". Since people start chasing him into the bathroom, Ronan escapes out the window with his gymnastic skills. On the train Ronan meets one of the Blood Guards, Dawkins, who is to escort him to Washington D.C. While the people who tried to attack him in the bathroom, come on the train, Ronan meets an old classmate named Greta, who also thought of him as a loner. Dawkins shows his skill as a Blood Guard by defeating the enemy and throwing Ronan and Greta out the train to save themselves. My thought on the book was ok. I mean sure it has some pretty cool fight scenes, but in a way it's kind of messed up because there is a twist in the end. But I would suggest this book when it comes out. (Cool cover.)

I thought this book was great! Sure, there's a twist in the end but, everyone was just doing what they thought was best (or so they say).

The Blood Guard is an amazing fast-paced novel about Evelyn Ronan Truelove. (But don’t call him Evelyn!) Ronan’s mom has enrolled him in special extra-curriculars all his life and now it’s time to put them to use. One day Ronan’s mom picks him up from school and starts saying crazy things about a secret society and dad going missing. He’s supposed to head to D.C away from trouble. But, (of course) things don’t go as expected and Ronan is now running for his life! It’s a good thing he has friends like Dawkins and Greta to help him! I really liked this book! I finished it in 1 day! There aren’t any slow moments and the action starts in the first chapter! The only thing I didn’t like about this book is that someone ALWAYS saves the day. Sometimes you have to let the character die to prove that the villain really is evil. There were two great twists towards the end of the book that catch you by surprise. The Blood Guard is a great book that I would definitely recommend!

"The Blood Guard" is about 13-year-old Evelyn Truelove, more commonly known as "Ronan." He learns one day that his mom is part of the Blood Guard, a series of people that secretly protect and oversee the Pure, 36 people in the world that keep the balance of good and bad in check. He soon finds himself with two companions, his bossy former classmate, Greta, and a stealing, greasy-haired guy name Dawkins, running away from a secret society that seems to want Ronan for something. I'm not going to say any spoilers in case u want to read this book! I feel like this book might appeal to most readers (over the age of 10, of course), but it didn't really click for me. I don't know if i wanted it to be more serious, or if it should be a little lighter, with more humor, but I wasn't 100% absorbed in this book. the title is really intriguing and i felt like the author was trying to make a Rick-Riordan-like book, but it fell just short of it. don't let me discourage you from reading "The Blood Guard!" i have a feeling you might have a separate opinion on this.

The reader is plunged into the action starting on the very first page. There is never a dull moment and it only gets more and more exciting. This book will keep you guessing at what really happened until the very end, when the plot twists will leave you super surprised. I think it's meant for middle schoolers but anyone who reads it can't help but get caught up in the suspense. I can't wait for the next book!
