This book was really good! The story takes place just after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. All of the kids: Kiku, Joe, Madge, and Walt are at the Metropolitan Museum of New York. They learn that they have to find the Kelmsbury Manuscript missing pages. If they'll be able to find that and reunite the pages with the book- and not get caught- they can protect America from getting a second attack. Five unlikely friends. One big adventure. Mysteries and backstories. Courage. Magic. Will the friends be able to find all the pages and protect the US? You'll have to read the book to find out! A little like From the Mixed up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler, and so much adventure! Carol Goodman does such a good job, it'll keep you reading all night! Happy reading!Over 3 years agobsc's book review was featured in Stand Up, Yumi Chung!.
This book was really good! Yumi Chang is very shy and has a secret. She loves comedy. The only problem is that her parents don't approve of her comedy dream. Yumi is supposed to be studying for summer school, but instead she sneaks into a comedy camp. And the instructor is...her favorite comedian! At first, Yumi just plans to sneak in and watch a bit. Watching a little of comedy and her favorite comedian can't hurt, right? But then she gets spotted. Everyone thinks she's Kay Nakamura, another student that was supposed to be there. Yumi doesn't deny it. Her life turns great! The instructor thinks she's great and she has so much fun. Yumi almost has two lives. Her's- Yumi Chang and Kay Nakamura- at comedy camp. But...what will happen when Kay and Yumi's parents and comedian find out she's faking? This book twists Korean food, comedy, and laughter into a beautiful book. Happy reading! 5/5 stars.Over 3 years agobsc added a book review.

Welcome to Wonderland Motel! P.T. Wilkie loves Wonderland Motel. It's owned by his grandfather and P.T.'s mom. Why wouldn't P.T. like Wonderland? It has a pool, ice cream machine, and frog slide! But then P.T. learns that the motel isn't doing too good. He's kind of always known....they don't get many customers, resulted in, well, not a lot of money. They need to save the motel before they lose it for good. But how? Luckly, P.T. and his new friend, Gloria have a plan. LOTS of them, which will hopefully be enough. I really enjoyed this book! I loved this book with it's humor! My grandparents live in Florida, so it's fun to recognize some places.Over 3 years agobsc added a book review.
What a good book! Nathan Hale is telling another tale now, and this one is about the Louisiana Purchase. There were lots of slaves in Haiti. Napoleon is in the French Army and government now. You learn about the Haitian Revolution, enslaves people, and, of course the Louisiana Purchase! This graphic novel ties history, some humor, and everything in between. My favorite character was probably Hangman! I really liked how funny he was, and I kept on cracking up because of him. Warning: this book contains slavery, so you may want to talk to a trusted adult after reading, Happy reading!Over 3 years ago
