As the German troops begin their campaign to "relocate" all the Jews of Denmark, 10-year-old Annemarie Johansens's family takes in annemaries' best friend, Ellen Roxen, and pretend she is part of the family. Ellen and Annemarie must htink quickly when three Nazi officers arrive late one night and question why Ellen is not blond, like her sisters. Through Annemaries' eyes, we see the Danish Resistance as they manage to smuggle almost the entire Jewish population, nearly seven thousand people, across the sea to Sweden. In this tale of an entire nation's heroism, Lois Lowry reminds us that there is pride and human decency in the world even during a time of terror and war.

This book is all about the Nazis soldiers trying to find the Jewish people and move all the Jewish people to the contraction camp, an camp where million and million of people died there during the Holocaust. The two girls, Annemarie Johnston (sorry if I spelled her last name wrong) and Ellen Rosen. The Rosens family is Jewish, so Annemarie`s family is now helping the Rosens hide until all of this is over. This book include, friendship, teamwork, and teaching others to be nice and equal to other people who is little different than us, Christians or Whites, I`m reading this book with my teacher this year, I became interested in this book, but some parts in this book is SUPER sad but still... it`s SUPER good! I rate this book 5 stars...!

Number the Stars was a great read about a 10 year old girl named Annemarie who lived through the Holocaust. Annemarie was learning to be brave in getting her friend to safety. Overall, it wasn't to long and it didn't sound like it was written a long time ago.
