Greenglass House—By Kate Milford—reviewed by squirrelflight——Milo Pine looks forward to spending his winter break drinking hot chocolate and hanging out with his parents at Greenglass House, the inn they run. But no such luck. As soon as Milo finishes his homework, the doorbell rings—and in comes a strange guest named Mr. Vinge. Milo’s disappointed...but one guest’s not such a big problem, is it? Turns out, he’s wrong. Soon, guests are pouring in through the doors of Greenglass House, each with their own mysterious reasons for coming to the inn. There’s Georgie Moselle, the blue-haired girl who loves photography; Mrs. Hereward and Dr. Goverwine, the total opposites who are always arguing; and Clem Candler, a cheerful lady who claims to be a thief. When things start to get fishy, and a mystery plot set up by one of the guests sucks everyone in, Milo must find out what’s happening—and fast. Along with his new friend Meddy, he discovers more secrets—and answers to his deepest questions. Can he and Meddy solve the mystery of who has been stealing from the guests and framing them? Read this book to find out!

In a world divided by war and inequality, survival is hard. But seventeen-year-old Mare Barrow, a thief who’s from a poor family, knows exactly how to survive in the Stilts, her small town which is just outside the royal palace. She is a Red, with no special abilities, no money, and no education—the complete opposite of the elite Silvers who rule their country and created a centuries-old war that every Red must be conscripted to by the age of eighteen. But when Mare’s friend Kilorn is about to be taken away for the war, and she meets a group of rebels called the Scarlet Guard, her world is turned upside down—and survival isn’t as easy as she thought. Saddened and angry, she goes back to the Stilts, trying to pickpocket enough money to save Kilorn from his conscription. Then, it happens: she meets a stranger named Cal who’s intentions she doesn’t know, but the next day, Silver officers arrive at her door...to take her away to the royal palace. In a torrent of confusion, Mare finds herself in a Silver arena, fighting for her life...and discovers something impossible. She is both Red and Silver, with abilities stronger than any of them—and any mistake she makes will be the end of her story. Can she survive? Read this book to find out! Overall, I enjoyed this book, and rate it 4/5 stars. I recommend it to readers who like action, fantasy, and romance, all combined in an amazing way!
