Evil tree. Bad Apple?

Twenty years ago, all the evil villains were banished from the kingdom of Auradon to the Isle of the Lost--a dark and dreary place protected by a force field that makes it impossible for them to leave. Stripped of their magical powers, the villains now live in total isolation, forgotten by the world.

Mal learns from her mother, Maleficent, that the key to true darkness, the Dragon's Eye, is located inside her scepter in the forbidden fortress on the far side of the island. The eye is cursed, and whoever retrieves it will be knocked into a deep sleep for a thousand years. But Mal has a plan to capture it. She'll just need a little help from her "friends." In their quest for the Dragon's Eye, these four kids begin to realize that just because you come from an evil family tree, being good ain't so bad.

The Isle of the Lost is the amazing prequel to the Descendant movie about life on the Isle of the Lost, the dark, filthy island that is covered by a magical dome that rids villains of their powers that king Beast banished all the most famous villains from the classic stories we all love. Such as Maleficent, the dark fairy who cursed a young girl to sleep for a-hundred years, Cruella De Ville, the madwoman who wanted to turn innocent dalmatian puppies into spotted fur coats, Evil Queen, the witch with her poisoned apples, and Jafar, the royal advisor who tried to take over a kingdom. These villains all had children who were born and raised on the Isle of the Lost. Now teenagers these children are Carlos, the intelligent son of Cruella De Ville, Evie, the fashionable daughter of Evil Queen, Jafar's son, Jay, the talented thief, and Mal, daughter of Maleficent who's only wish is to be just as evil as her mother. During a magical mishap Carlos and Evie accidentally brake a hole into the dome; causing the Dragon Eye, Maleficent's magical scepter to gains power. The four go on a quest to find it in an attempt to impress their parents. During the dangerous journey they face tests, magic, become friends, learn that the rotten apple does fall far from the tree and that good always overcomes evil. I would recommend this to anyone who loves the Descendants movies and enjoys a good book about the misfits rising up.

When King Beast was crowned King of USA, The United States of Auradon, he banished all of the villains to the Isle of the Lost. The ruler is Maleficent. Maleficent's friends were Cruella De Ville , Jafar, and the Evil Queen. Maleficent had a daughter named Mal, Evil Queen had a daughter called Evie, Jafar had a son named Jay, and Cruella De Ville had a son named Carlos. One day, Carlos made a machine that blasted a hole in the dome of the Isle of the Lost. The magic came in. Maleficent told Mal, Evie, Jay, and Carlos to go and find the Dragons Eye. They came to Maleficent's old castle, and crossed a bridge. At the beginning, one half of the bridge crumbled. Carlos answered the questions the gargoyles asked. Soon they passed. Next, the fell into the Cave Of Wonders. The room started to fill with sand and treasure. The Cave asked Jay what the golden rule was. Jay answered and they moved on. Then they were in a room with mirrors. They are under a spell which makes them look ugly. Evie has to answer a question. She answers it correctly. Then they find the Dragons Eye. Mal touches it and falls asleep. When she wakes up, the Dragon Eye was gone. When they return, Mal realizes that Maleficent's crow, Diablo, took the Dragon Eye and returned it to Maleficent.

At first I was hesitant to read this book, but I am so glad I did! This book was surprisingly very funny. Following the story of a supposed villain, The Isle of the Lost shows that just because your family might be evil doesn't mean you have to be. I liked that this book showed personal choice.

I really liked it because it had an adventure and friendship and working together. I thought the story was interesting because it used parts of some other stories I already knew like Beauty and the Beast, Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty.

Mal, Evie, Jay and Carlos are sent off to get Maleficent's Dragon Eye which is the only way to true evil and darkness. But soon realize that it's in Maleficent's fortress on the other side of the island they live on. And they also figure out whoever retrieves the Dragon's Eye, will be put into a deep deep sleep. Mal has a plan to get the Eye which involves the help of her "friends". But along the journey, they are thinking that maybe being a good person wouldn't be so bad even if her bloodline is evil.
