How did it happen? Why did we allow it to happen? Could it happen again? These are the three questions most often asked about the Holocaust, the whirlwind of murder during which the Nazi-led government of the Third Reich systematically slaughtered 6 million Jews, along with millions of victims from other targeted populations Gypsies, Slavs, the mentally retarded, the insane, homosexuals, and the physically deformed. In , Rossel examines the Nazi rise to power, the role of prejudice and propaganda in the Holocaust, and echoes of the Holocaust that plagued the world before, during, and after the Nazi period and continue to plague us to this day. The Holocaust, he maintains, did not happen to the Jews alone. It is a tragedy that exposed the depths of evil we human beings are capable of visiting upon one another. Yet, the book is not without hope. As philosopher George Santayana wrote, we must know what happened for those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it. At the very least, understanding the Holocaust enables us to recognize when blowing winds of prejudice threaten to become tornados and hurricanes to sweep away the innocent. For, as Rossel states in the Foreword, every echo of the Holocaust offers us the opportunity to rise above the worst that is in us and to exercise the best that is in us.

Have you ever known what it is like to be abused, and not treated like others, and even your family and friends killed? Chances are, you haven’t. The book that I will be talking about is a book written by Seymour Rossel called “The Holocaust” which is about the Holocaust. The Holocaust takes place in Germany 1933-1945. The overall focus of this book is Hitler's actions and basically what he's done. The first conflict in the book that I will be talking about is when Hitler starts to take action when he first started to get the jews to have separate things like separate bathrooms and being in the very back of the bus and things like that. And a second conflict I will be talking about is that all shops owned by jews were destroyed and robbed sometimes harming the owners or even killing them. One of the five interesting facts I will share is that Hitler actually got rejected from an art school more than once which lead his life to fascism. Another fact is that Hitler was once ordered to trim his mustache. A third fact is that Adolf actually loved Disney. A fourth fact is that Hitler was a vegetarian. And for the last fact I will be sharing is that Hitler's favorite actor only died in 2011. As a conclusion, I liked this book because it is very factual and goes through a timeline of Hitler’s actions and it is enjoyable to read. I would recommend this to more mature sixth graders and up because the book give you information about pretty graphic things that happened. This will conclude my book review.
