Stephen Satlow is an eight-year-old boy living in Brooklyn, New York, which means he only cares about one thing-the Dodgers. Steve and his father spend hours reading the sports pages and listening to games on the radio. Aside from an occasional run-in with his teacher, life is pretty simple for Steve.

But then Steve hears a rumor that an African American family is moving to his all-Jewish neighborhood. It's 1948 and some of his neighbors are against it. Steve knows this is wrong. His hero, Jackie Robinson, broke the color barrier in baseball the year before.

Then it happens--Steve's new neighbor is none other than Jackie Robinson! Steve is beyond excited about living two doors down from the Robinson family. He can't wait to meet Jackie. This is going to be the best baseball season yet! How many kids ever get to become friends with their hero?

This book is amazing, I think it was also written by Robinson’s wife.

Jackie Robinson is elite!

i really liked the friendship between jackie and steve and how you kind of forget the proluige for the whole story until the epoluge at the end

I love this book. It based on an actual event. Tony Robinson was the best but he passed away. I will remember number 42.

I really like this book because it was based on a true story. I love how this story tells the story of how a boy can become friends with his hero. Also they live in a jewish neighborhood and this christian who's black just enters the town.

This book, "The Hero Two Doors Down'' is based on the true story of eight year old Steven Satlow and his hero Jackie Robinson in 1948. Steven heard a rumor that an African family was moving into a jewish neighborhood, the one he lived in. All Steven's neighbors were against it, because they didn't want an African family in their neighborhood, or in other words, they cared about race. It so happens that Stevens hero, Jackie Robinson moved in two doors down from him. This book is so cool and one of the best books I've ever read!
