The Luck of the Buttons

The Luck of the Buttons

By Anne Ylvisaker

The Luck of the Buttons is about a young girl namesTugs Button. Her family is famous for the fact that they are simply not lucky. But then things keep going Tugs' way, and she is determined to be different from her family members. Then a stranger shows up, charming everyone with his desire to open a newspaper to the town. Then he starts collecting money in order to start his business. But Tugs is suspicious. Is Moore who he says he is? Will he take advantage of her town? This is a charming historical fiction book set in 1929, in a small Mid-West town. I would recommend it for any age group. However, the story is slow-paced and younger children might not enjoy the book as much. Also, since this book is set in the past, some younger people may not know certain terms, or the way life was back then. However, I found this book delightful, and am excited to read the rest of the series.

Grandmother Spider Brings the Sun: A Cherokee Story

By Geri Keams

Have you ever wondered how the sun came to our side of the world? Many years ago animals were sick of bumping into each other. A possum and a buzzard failed to capture the sun but a little spider spoke up with her little voice and said….to read this book and what you think about it.

Ivy Takes Care

Ivy Takes Care

By Rosemary Wells

Ivy Takes Care by Rosemary Wells is a very cute story. Ivy is a young girl in 1949 who lives on a ranch. Ivy's family doesn't have much money, so when Ivy wants to buy a ring for her best friend, she had to buy it herself. To make money, Ivy becomes a pet sitter and takes care of a horse, trains a show dog, and nurses a fox back to health. Overall, this book is a cute, relatively quick read. Also, I noticed that Rosemary Wells, the author, wrote that TV show Max and Ruby.

Honus & Me (Baseball Card Adventures (Pb))

By Dan Gutman

I am no a big fan of baseball but this book is awesome! It is about a boy named Joe Stoshack ad he collects baseball cards. He stumbles across a half a million dollar card and doesn't give it back to the rightful owner, its too valuable. This hobby of his is very special, because as he holds it and wishes to meet Honus Wagner some odd things happen as Honus goes back to Joe's time. Joe gets to walk in Honus's shoes and returns Mrs, Young to her long gone soulmate using the baseball card.
